Mo Salah, Van Dijk and TAA could become free agents in June 2025.
Liverpool are on course to their second Premier League title under new head coach Arne Slot. With the new era building, the Merseyside club might be in for some serious glory years ahead. However, looking after their seasoned players who’ve been here since the rough is something Liverpool might be failing at.
With three of their veterans Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold running out of contracts in June, the negotiations for their extension have been slow. Moreover, some of the stars are also speculated for an exit from Anfield at the end of the season.
With Alexander-Arnold in his peak years and the veteran duo still in shape, Liverpool might have stretched it too far with no negotiations being held. As a result, the future of some of their best players still is in a blur and could cost them a heavy price.

Salah has mentioned about being uncertain about his future at Liverpool earlier this season. Seeing the Egyptian have a successful season, he’s most likely to be wanted by clubs from all over the world should he decide to depart.
The 33-year-old winger was reportedly upset with the length of the previous contract offered by Liverpool. With his age taken into consideration, the Reds seem to be unwilling to offer Salah a secured contract. Salah who currently earns around £400,000 per week is the highest-paid Liverpool player right now.
With recent rumours of the Egyptian being very close to a contract renewal, fans could take a sigh of relief. However, the talks of offers from Saudi Arabia continue to intrigue the scenario given the amount of wages they are willing to pay.
Van Dijk on the other page could be said to face a similar situation to Salah. Given that the centre-back turns 34 this year, Liverpool has been hesitant to offer the Dutchman a long-term contract. Van Dijk who joined Liverpool for a record fee of £75 million, could also leave as a free agent when his contract expires in June.

When asked about his contract situation, the Liverpool captain seemed calm. Talking about how he’s prepared to run his contract down as he’s focused on the games ahead, Van Dijk told BBC:
“I don’t want to create any anxiety or anything like that. I just keep my head down and focus on hopefully winning the next 10 games, maybe I will run this fully down and then there is still no news – I don’t know. There is no need to panic, whatever may happen in the future. I am fully committed to Liverpool Football Club at the moment and there is no doubt about that.”
Although his commitment to Liverpool looks firm, we cannot say it’s the other way around. The Dutch captain has also been linked to clubs like PSG, Real and Madrid and Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia.
Alexander-Arnold, who joined Liverpool at the age of six, has been heavily linked to Real Madrid. With the 26-year-old leaving for free, the fullback’s trade is set to hurt Liverpool the most.
Many pundits have suggested that the Reds dropped the ball dealing with Alexander-Arnold’s situation. Failing to renew his contract in the past few months, Alexander-Arnold will be allowed to leave as a free agent in June. The Englishman who’s worth around £75 million on the market is set to leave for free at the end of the season.
Whether Liverpool manages to make one of these trio stay or if will they pursue all of them is a question for the future. However, Slot and his squad will be focused on winning the league as they are five wins away from lifting the title. With departures, fans can also expect the Liverpool head coach to focus on the replacements with the summer window incoming.
