Jamie Carragher on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Real Madrid Links: ‘Players Come and Go, They also Get Replaced’

Mayur Dedwal

Jamie Carragher said Trent Alexander-Arnold is worth £80 Million.

Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid is the hottest commodity in the football world since Fabrizio Romano spilt the beans. Even though the rumours of the transfer have been surfacing for a while, the news of their academy graduate leaving hasn’t sunk with the Merseyside fans.

While some would call Alexander-Arnold’s decisions an act of betrayal, there have been tweets about benching him for the rest of the season. Moreover, as the 26-year-old’s contract expires in June, he will be leaving as a free agent should the deal happen.

Speaking on the subject, former Liverpool player and pundit Jamie Carragher put a different perspective on this transfer. Addressing how much he would’ve brought in and why it doesn’t matter, Carragher told Sky Sports:

“Trent Alexander-Arnold could’ve brought £80 million because that’s what he’s probably worth. But I look at it from another perspective and think he didn’t cost us anything. So maybe I’m not frustrated about that as other few people are which is fine.”

The 47-year-old insisted that the fact that Liverpool is on course to become real contenders should be considered by the right-back. Talking further that the clubs continue towards success he added:

“Players like Michael Owen left because Liverpool wasn’t in the position they are right now. Liverpool is on course to be successful for the next 3-4 years, which would’ve been the length of his contract should he sign. Great players come and go, great players replace them and usually the success of the clubs continues.”

Alexander-Arnold who joined Liverpool in 2004 is in talks to bid farewell to the Reds after 21 years. Joining at the age of six, he won everything at the club level with his home club. The 26-year-old will leave a remark with a decorated cabinet at Anfield should he leave this summer.

Liverpool are currently 12 points clear of Arsenal in the Premier League. With the league being their last hope to silverware, Arne Slot and his team will look to send Alexander-Arnold with one last red jewel in his crown.
