Canada Soccer Denies Blame After Alphonso Davies’ Agent Slams Team Over ACL Injury

Abhinav Goel

Alphonso Davies’ agent Nedal Huoseh strongly criticized Canada’s decision to play the left-back in the match against USA.

The ACL injury suffered by Alphonso Davies has caused tension between Bayern Munich and the Canadian FA. The Bayern Munich star’s agent blamed the Canadian federation and Jesse Marsch for forcing Davies to play for Canada against the United States in the CONCACAF Nations League.

Now, Canada Soccer has denied the allegations made by Alphonso Davies’ agent following the incident, rejecting claims that the national team was at fault for the incident. Alphonso Davies started the 3rd-4th place match against USA. But he was forced off just 12 minutes into the match due to the knee injury. Although he was later seen walking on his own, medical scans revealed a torn ligament in his right knee.

Bayern Munich confirmed the news on their official website, stating that Davies had sustained the injury while on international duty with Canada. The club announced that the defender would undergo surgery immediately and is expected to be sidelined for around six months, effectively ruling him out for the rest of the season.

What Did Alphonso Davies’ Agent Say

Alphonso Davies’ agent Nedal Huoseh strongly criticized Canada’s decision to play the left-back in the match against USA despite the player reportedly not being fully fit. Huoseh expressed disbelief over Davies being named in the starting lineup.

Nedal Huoseh told German publishing house Münchner Merkur/tz-

“I was surprised that he started because he said he was not capable of starting. Canada soccer needs to do a better job managing these players, in my opinion. Alphonso is down and obviously really disappointed about this injury.”

“Coach Jesse Marsh should have managed the situation in a better, this could have been 100% avoided,” Huoseh added.

Canada Soccer Responds to Davies’ Agent

Canada Soccer has rejected claims from Alphonso Davies’ agent regarding the player’s injury. Paulo Senra, a spokesman for the federation, denied any responsibility for the Bayern Munich star’s injury.

“Anything that suggests or points in another direction is simply not true. We want to express our full support for Alphonso Davies as he recovers from this unfortunate injury. But Fonzie’s strength and resilience is matched by his world-class talent, and we will fully support him in his fight to get back on the pitch,” Senra told The Athletic.

The coaches and experienced medical team are true professionals and have always prioritised the health and safety of the players,” Senra added.

The ACL injury suffered by Alphonso Davies is a big blow for Bayern Munich as Davies had just signed a new contract with the club. The German giants had worked hard to keep him at the club, offering a €22 million signing bonus and a yearly salary of €15 million, with his previous contract set to expire this summer.
