Barcelona Extends Win Streak to Eight, Steer 3 Points Clear of Real Madrid

Barcelona is the only team in Europe’s top-five leagues which has yet to lose in 2025.

Barcelona extended their La Liga winning streak to eight matches with a dominant 3-0 victory over Osasuna, moving three points clear at the top of the table. The La Liga clash had been originally postponed due to the tragic passing of the club’s longtime doctor Carles Minarro Garcia.

The win extended Barca’s unbeaten run in all competitions to 19 games. Notably, Barcelona is the only team in Europe’s top-five leagues which has yet to lose in 2025. Ferran Torres opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a sliding finish after a well-placed cross from Alejandro Balde. Shortly after, Dani Olmo won a penalty following a challenge from Osasuna goalkeeper Sergio Herrera.

Although Herrera initially saved Olmo’s spot-kick, the effort had to be retaken due to encroachment, and the Spaniard made no mistake the second time around. Unfortunately, Olmo’s night ended early due to injury later in the first half. Barcelona sealed the win in the second half when substitute Robert Lewandowski headed home the third goal, finishing off a slick counter-attack to wrap up all three points for the league leaders.

Barcelona Go Three Points Clear at the Top

Barcelona’s 3-0 win over Osasuna has tilted the La Liga title race firmly in their favour, at least for now. With 10 matches remaining, the Catalan giants now sit at the top of the table on 63 points from 28 games. Real Madrid trail Barca by three points having played the same number of matches. Atletico Madrid remain in the hunt but are five points behind Los Blancos and seven off top spot.

However, the title race is far from decided. The biggest test for Hansi Flick’s team will be a potential title-deciding showdown on May 11th when Barcelona host Real Madrid in the second El Clásico of the season. Not only will that fixture carry massive psychological weight, but it could also be the turning point in the La Liga title race. With both clubs still set to play some of the league’s tougher opponents, consistency will be key in deciding the winners.
