The Catalan Giants Have a “Genuine” Interest in Signing the Colombian Winger, With Liverpool Yet To Offer Him a New Contract.
The season is nearing its ending stage and teams are watching their fates unfold. With that, they are starting to make decisions that need to be executed following the end of the season. It seems Barcelona may be in the market for a forward while Liverpool may be set to sell a bunch.
This isn’t the first time that Luis Diaz has been linked with a move to Barcelona. However, the situation seems a bit different this time around. Diaz’s contract will expire in 2027 and there’s been a lack of renewal talks from the Reds which has fueled speculations.
Arne Slot conceded Liverpool were deservedly beaten as a result of a disappointing performance in their 2-1 Carabao Cup final defeat by Newcastle United at Wembley.

Reliable journalist and transfer expert David Ornstein of The Athletic recently confirmed that Barcelona’s interest in Diaz is “genuine.” He also mentioned that there has been “no sign of a new contract” yet for the 28-year-old from the Reds, which is “unusual for such a prominent player.”

Diaz joined Liverpool back in January 2022 and became a key player under both Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot. However, even with 13 goal contributions, Liverpool’s season has ended in the Champions League and the EFL Cup. They have an excellent chance of winning the Premier League but they could be making a lot of changes in summer to do better.
Hence, even with Diaz’s consistent performances, the Reds may consider cashing in on him. If Barcelona or another club submits a strong offer, Liverpool may see this season-end as the right time to part ways with Diaz. However, with Barcelona’s financial situation, acquiring Diaz may come to be difficult for them.
Barcelona’s season has been a brilliant one as they are still in contention for the treble. This seems incredible considering their downward spiral only a year or two ago. Even with the ascendance in form, they will look to make it last, and bringing in talented players like Diaz can help with that.

However, Luis Diaz won’t come cheap, so Barcelona will have to generate a lot of money for the transfer and his wage. Sporting director Deco is looking at financial strategies to facilitate the possible demands. Selling players is one of the key options Barca may consider.
Barcelona could bid adieu to high-profile players such as Andreas Christensen or Eric García for being weighed. The future of Ronald Araújo remains uncertain as well, with Barcelona open to a sale if the Uruguayan wants to leave.
