Mexico vs. Panama: How Much Prize Money Does Mexico Get for Winning CONCACAF Nations League?

Mexico became the first nation other than the United States to win the CONCACAF Nations League, ending the USMNT’s streak of three straight titles.

Mexico clinched the 2024–25 CONCACAF Nations League title with a dramatic 2-1 win over Panama in the final, thanks to a brace from Raul Jimenez. The veteran striker opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a well-placed header after receiving a pin-point cross from Roberto Alvarado. Panama managed to level the score just before halftime through a penalty from Adalberto Carrasquilla, which was awarded after a foul on Cecilio Waterman. Carrasquilla calmly slotted the ball down the middle to make it 1-1 going into the break.

The second half saw Mexico dominate possession and press for a winner. After toiling for majority of the half, the breakthrough finally came in stoppage time after Panama’s Jose Cordoba was penalized for a handball inside the box. Jimenez stepped up and buried the penalty into the top corner, securing the title and completing his second consecutive brace in the tournament after scoring twice against Canada in the semi-final. With this win, Mexico became the first nation other than the United States to win the Nations League, ending the USMNT’s streak of three straight titles.

How Much Prize Money Will Mexico Get After Winning CONCACAF Nations League?

One might expect a major international tournament like the CONCACAF Nations League to come with a hefty cash prize. However, Mexico will receive a trophy – adorned with 34 diamonds and medals for the players and coaching staff. There’s no financial reward attached to the victory.

When compared to the UEFA Nations League, the lack of monetary incentive in CONCACAF Nations League is glaring. The winner of the UEFA Nations League takes home a hefty €10.5 million, while the runner-up is awarded €9 million.

Earlier on Sunday, Canada secured a 2-1 victory over the United States in the CONCACAF Nations League third-place playoff. Canada opened the scoring in the first half with a goal from Tani Oluwaseyi but the U.S. responded shortly after through Patrick Agyemang. Jonathan David netted the decisive goal of the match as the Lille striker placed his shot calmly into the bottom left corner in the 59th minute.
