Three Players Liverpool Could Sign to Replace Trent Alexander-Arnold This Summer

Liverpool fans are still coming to terms with the news that vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold may leave on a free transfer to join Real Madrid this summer. The 25-year-old has been the heartbeat of Liverpool’s right flank for several years, combining his elite playmaking with solid defensive efforts. His departure would leave a significant void in the Liverpool team.

The England international’s technical brilliance and unique playmaking skills from the right-back position make him nearly impossible to replace directly. As a result, Liverpool manager Arne Slot will be tasked with reshaping the team’s dynamics on the right-hand side. A summer signing looks likely as the Reds will be keen to bring in a right-back who can offer defensive reliability while also contributing creatively in attack.

Finding a replacement of TAA’s calibre won’t be easy but here are three full-backs who could potentially step into Trent’s shoes at Anfield.

3. Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen)

Jeremie Frimpong is a player who, like Trent Alexander-Arnold, may not be the strongest defender but makes up for it with his attacking qualities. The Bayer Leverkusen right-back is known for his pace, creativity, and energy going forward – making him an exciting option for Liverpool. Frimpong has been linked with a move to the Premier League for the last few transfer windows, with Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal all showing interest at different times.

The Dutch international started his football journey at Manchester City’s youth academy. He then joined Celtic in 2019 and moved to Leverkusen in 2021, where he has flourished. Frimpong’s still only 23 years old and reportedly has a £34 million release clause, making him an affordable target. His style of play would fit well at Liverpool, which makes him a compelling replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

2. Ola Aina

Ola Aina has quietly emerged as one of the most reliable right-backs in the Premier League this season. The Nigerian international has been a vital part of Nottingham Forest’s defense this season. Aina has been instrumental in helping the team stay in the race for Champions League qualification under Nuno Espirito Santo. With 12 clean sheets, Forest have been superb defensively and Aina’s consistency has played a major role in that success.

The 27-year-old brings versatility, composure, and defensive discipline, making him a potentially great signing for Liverpool as they look to reinforce their backline. What makes the move even more attractive is that Aina is out of contract this summer and he could be available on a free transfer. Aina has played all 29 league matches for Nottingham and has also contributed in attack, scoring two goals and registering one assist.

1. Daniel Munoz (Crystal Palace)

Liverpool should seriously consider Colombian international Daniel Munoz, who has impressed everyone at Crystal Palace this season. The 27-year-old has enjoyed a standout campaign in the Premier League, contributing five goals and five assists in 33 appearances across all competitions. His attacking contributions highlight his threat from deep.
