A huge win for WWE and ESPN as 5-year deal to start from 2026

ESPN is on a roll lately with back-to-back deals put in place by the sports network over the past 24 hours. First up, the Disney-owned sports media company acquired the NFL Network and other assets from the NFL, after offering a 10% stake to football’s top league.

Now comes the news that ESPN has struck a five-year deal with the WWE in which two night events, including WrestleMania and SummerSlam, as well as other premium live events like the Royal Rumble, Survivor Series, and others, will be making their way to ESPN platforms. WWE will be in charge of all events, and the deal is set to start in 2026.

The massive deal will reportedly see the WWE pocket a handsome amount worth an average of $325 million per year for the next 5 years. As per reports, ESPN will gain access to all 10 premium WWE live events annually.

ESPN’s Jimmy Pitaro and WWE’s Paul Levesque’s Thoughts Following Deal

ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro expressed his excitement about bolstering its content and bringing over the immense fan base that constitutes the WWE.

“WWE has an immense, devoted, and passionate fan base that we’re excited to super-serve on our new ESPN DTC platform. This agreement, which features the most significant WWE events of the year, bolsters our unprecedented content portfolio and helps drive our streaming future.”

On the other side, WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Paul Levesque or better known as ‘Triple H’, made an appearance on ESPN’s morning show ‘Get Up’, where he also shared his enthusiasm following the latest partnership with the sports media giant. When asked what it meant for the WWE to partner with ESPN, Levesque could not be happier.

“It’s incredible. You know, for what we consider the worldwide leader in sports entertainment to be with the worldwide leader of sports and entertainment…ESPN, there’s nothing bigger. There’s no bigger opportunity for us than this right now, and on top of that, to be in the Disney family, so to speak. We’re thrilled and can’t wait to get rolling.”

What is ESPN’s Direct To Consumer (DTC) Service?

ESPN is launching its Direct-to-consumer service on August 21st for $29.99 per month. This new streaming service has been in the works for several years and will finally see the light of day.

The DTC service will basically encompass everything the network has to offer, as well as new additions such as fantasy sports, betting, and more. Interestingly, this service is set to be fully digital and not a part of the cable bundle.

With massive work going on in the background, there are some exciting times ahead for everyone involved with Disney and ESPN. Now that two huge stories have come out within a day, the question is, what does ESPN have up its sleeve next?

nfl nfl

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
