Gunther Injury Update: What Happened To Gunther?

Ashish Negi

Michael Cole provides an important update on Gunther's injury.

Gunther has been one of the biggest rising WWE stars in recent years. He has been a champion 80% of the time he has been in WWE. He has seldom been pinned in WWE, that too by a handful of superstars. He has defeated big names like Goldberg in his WWE career, and the few superstars that were able to beat him include big names like Cody Rhodes, Sami Zayn, Jey Uso, and CM Punk, who added his name to the list at SummerSlam.

CM Punk and Gunther were in the fight of their life at Day 1 of SummerSlam, an intense battle between the two for the World Heavyweight Championship. This match was worthy of a SummerSlam main event, but didn’t pan out to be good for any of them. CM Punk won the match to become the World Heavyweight Champion, only to lose his title in 5 minutes to his nemesis, Seth Rollins, via MITB cash-in, while Gunther got injured.

What Happened to Gunther?

Gunther was dominating CM Punk during the match, but you only get to make one mistake against the legend. Gunther attempted to celebrate early, standing over the announcer’s table when CM Punk pulled his legs, causing Gunther to fall face-first onto the table. He was busted open on the impact and suffered a Septal Hematoma and an Orbital Blowout Fracture.

Gunther later lost the match and the title, but the trouble kept mounting for him as he was checked backstage. Michael Cole gave an injury update on him tonight on Monday Night Raw. Gunther won the World Heavyweight title back from Jey Uso on June 9, 2025, but lost it to CM Punk in less than two months.

When Will Gunther Be Back?

Gunther would be out of WWE indefinitely, as informed by Michael Cole. He will be going under regular procedures, and we might not see him compete in the squared ring anytime soon. We will provide updates as soon as we receive any new information regarding his injury, and wish Gunther a speedy recovery.
