A closer look at boxer Ryan Garcia's roots and family heritage.
Ryan Garcia, also known as King Ryan or The Flash, is renowned for his lightning-fast hand speed, knockout power, and commanding presence in the ring. He held the WBC interim lightweight title in 2021 following a technical knockout victory over Luke Campbell. Garcia faced Devin Haney for the WBC super lightweight title last April; however, the fight was ruled a no contest in spite of his win. This happened because Garcia was three pounds overweight, making him ineligible for the title.
Garcia began his professional boxing career in June 2016, making an immediate impact with a TKO victory over Edgar Meza. He went on to build an impressive 23-fight winning streak, defeating several high-caliber opponents, including Campbell, Javier Fortuna, Emmanuel Tagoe, and Romero Duno, among others. However, the streak came to an end in April 2023, when he faced Gervonta “Tank” Davis and suffered a knockout loss.

Ryan Garcia is of Mexican descent. He is proud of his descent and wears Mexican and American flags to the ring. Referring to this, he stated to Interview Magazine, “It’s key. You need to know where you came from to know where you’re going.” Though ‘King Ryan’ does not speak Spanish.
Ryan’s father, Henry Garcia, comes from Anahuac, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Lisa, Ryan’s mother, stated to No Puedes Jugar Boxeo,
“We didn’t cross the border, the border crossed us. We always say in New Mexico that it was Mexico. My family was there when it was Mexico, when there were Apaches and people from Spain.”
