The NFL draft is fast approaching and the Pittsburgh Steelers need to be extremely sharp going into the 2025 draft, as they have a lot of holes to fill. Particularly the quarterback spot. Round one of the NFL draft begins on April 24th, 2025, which is now just a month away. So the question to be asked is if the Steelers should draft a quarterback?
After signing players such as WR D.K. Metcalf, corner Darius Slay, RB Kenneth Gainwell, and some more players, the Steelers have added some depth. They also decided to bring back QB Mason Rudolph to their roster, but he is not a starting caliber quarterback so they still need a QB1.
The Steelers also recently met with Aaron Rodgers and while they have not officially agreed to anything yet, reports state that the two parties are still in touch. The Steelers could also resign Russell Wilson, but after Aaron Rodgers’ visit to the Steelers’ facility, the chances of that happening looks to be slim. So what should they do in the NFL draft? Should the Steelers draft a QB from the 2025 NFL draft? Let us discuss it further.

The 2025 NFL draft is filled with a lot of talent, and particularly with a lot of top cornerback prospects. Travis Hunter, Will Johnson, Jahdae Barron, and various other corners will all be the hot commodities coming into the draft. However, when we talk about quarterbacks, there may not be too many prospects to choose from.
The Steelers, more likely than not, are not going to be a title contender this upcoming season. They are still in the rebuilding phase and have a lot of holes to fill. Which is why we think they should wait for 2026 to draft a QB. According to various reports, in the 2026 draft class, there could be 4-5 quarterbacks that have huge potential and could be significantly better than the 2025’s QB prospects.
The Steelers hold eight picks in the 2025 NFL draft and in the first round of the draft, they’ll get hold of the 21st pick. The Steelers could get Oregon’s DT Derrick Harmon according to Mel Kiper’s mock draft. While their total defense was ranked 12th last season, adding somebody like Harmon could make the team even better on the defensive side of the field.

The Steelers could sign Aaron Rodgers to a one-year deal who could at least still provide some kind of veteran leadership, and they can look ahead to potentially draft a top QB prospect in 2026, as the team still tries to figure out the rest of the problems this season. They already have added Rudolph to the team and he could serve as a good backup option to Rodgers.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler the Steelers could look to draft a quarterback high, if not this year then in 2026. While the Steelers could still go ahead and draft a QB this year, we will not be surprised if they decide not to!
