The New York Giants were on the hunt for a quarterback this offseason after letting Daniel Jones sign with the Indianapolis Colts, who went 2-8 as the starting QB for the Giants last season. Jones had signed a 4-year $160 million contract with the Giants in 2023 offseason but was released by the team in less than two years. The franchise has been in a mess for sometime and have been looking for a quality QB. There were initially reports that Aaron Rodgers was going to sign with the team but reports stated that 4x MVP is looking for a longer commitment from the team than what the Giants were offering.
The Giants have only made the playoffs once in the last 8 seasons and have been unable to find much success in the recent years. The team were 3-14 last season and were tied with the Cleveland Browns and the Tennessee Titans for the worst record in the league in 2024. Whether it’s inconsistent quarterback plays, back coaching, or lackluster defense or offense, they had no answers to their problems. The Giants were ranked 24th in total defense and 30th in total offense, being one of the worst teams on both sides of the field.
Giants’ head coach Brian Daboll was not fired from the team despite going 3-14 last season. However, things were so bad last season that the Giants’ fans were flying banners in the MetLife stadium to fire the headcoach, Daboll and GM Joe Schoen.

Now the Giants have added a new quarterback and could he be the answers to some of their problems next season? Let’s find out.
Jameis Winston was signed by the New York Giants for a two-year $8 million deal according to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero.
Winston will now join Tommy DeVito as the only quarterbacks in the Giants’ roster and the Giants got him for a very modest price. The team has not committed to Winston for a long-term deal and they can let go off him immediately after the 2025 season.
While the Giants signed Winston, that is definitely not their final plan. They plan to draft a superstar quarterback like Miami’s Cam Ward as the Giants own the 3rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, and do not plan on adding any additional QBs through free agency.

Winston played for the Cleveland Browns last season and started for 7 games while playing in a total of 12. He threw for 2121 passing yards, had 13 touchdowns, on 12 interceptions, and a pass completion rate of 61.1%. While the Pro Bowler has not played like he did in the 2019 season where he threw for 5000 plus yards, and is not somebody that really moves the needle for the Giants, he will still provide some veteran leadership and bring a lot of joy to the team with his charismatic personality.
