Kyrgios sidelined again with knee injury, delaying his return to Wimbledon.
Nick Kyrgios will miss Wimbledon 2025 following a setback in his recovery from a lingering knee injury, the same issue that kept him out of Roland Garros. The Aussie star shared the update via Instagram Stories earlier today, apologizing to fans for the disappointment and assuring them it’s just a temporary hurdle. He added that he’s already back to work, focused on returning stronger than ever.

Kyrgios has dealt with recurring knee and wrist issues across 2023, 2024, and even earlier. Once ranked as high as world No. 13, the Aussie has now dropped to No. 633, a stark reflection of how injuries have derailed his momentum. A finalist at Wimbledon in 2022, Kyrgios has won seven singles titles since turning pro in 2013, along with four doubles titles, including the 2022 Australian Open with Thanasi Kokkinakis.
The announcement is a major disappointment not just for Kyrgios but for fans who were eager to see him back at the All England Club after skipping Roland Garros. While he’s been open about his distaste for clay, he’s always been a crowd favorite on faster surfaces.
In his Instagram story, Kyrgios wrote, “Just wanted to give everyone a quick update – I’ve hit a small setback in my recovery and unfortunately won’t make it back for grass season this year. I know how much you’ve all been looking forward to seeing me out there, and I’m genuinely sorry to disappoint. This is just a bump in the road though, and I’m already working hard to get back stronger than ever. Thank you for all your continued support – it means everything to me. See you soon!”
Last year, Kyrgios had announced plans to return in 2025 and later, at Roland Garros, his first appearance since 2017, not in singles, but in doubles with partner Jordan Thompson. That comeback, too, was cut short by another flare-up in his knee, raising further doubts about the Aussie’s long-term fitness.

"Something is keeping me around the game. (…) I think the one thing that is now on my target is a Grand Slam. I think that will be the only thing that will shut people up at the end of the day. That'll be my deep motivation." pic.twitter.com/x2m62PZTQ0
There was a glimmer of hope back in March when Kyrgios earned his first singles win in over two years, defeating American Mackenzie McDonald in Miami. Having undergone wrist reconstruction and dealt with persistent foot and knee injuries, the 30-year-old was hoping to build on that momentum until things unraveled once again. His current record for the season stands at 1-4.

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
