A look into the coaching team behind Carlos Alcaraz’s rise.
Carlos Alcaraz has quickly become the face of tennis’ next generation, already drawing comparisons to legends like Rafael Nadal, the King of Clay. The Spaniard is an all-court aggressive baseliner with the potential and mental edge of a future all-time great. Living up to the hype, he’s redefining what the post-Big Three era could look like.
Blending explosive athleticism with sharp instincts and a level of court coverage that is otherworldly, Alcaraz is a former world No. 1, reaching it in September 2022. He has also won 19 ATP career singles titles, including the 2022 US Open, 2023 and 2024 Wimbledon and the 2024 French Open.

Carlos Alcaraz’s current coaching entourage consists of Juan Carlos Ferrero, Samuel Lopez, Alberto Lledo, Juanjo Moreno, Juanjo Lopez, Albert Molina, Alvaro Alcaraz, and Fran Rubio.
Samuel Lopez joined Carlos Alcaraz’s team in December 2024 as the newest addition to his coaching staff. Serving as a second coach alongside Juan Carlos Ferrero, Lopez’s arrival allows for a more balanced division of responsibilities, easing the load on Ferrero. With Lopez’s strategic insight and Ferrero’s long-standing mentorship, Alcaraz’s team now feels even more complete as he pushes toward greater heights in 2025.

Carlos Alcaraz turned pro in 2018 and soon joined the Ferrero Tennis Academy, led by former World No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero. A Grand Slam champion himself, Ferrero won the 2003 French Open and was a finalist at other majors during his playing career, which began in 1998 and concluded in 2012. In 14 years, he won 16 ATP single career titles and his career record stands at 479-262.
Since transitioning into coaching, he has guided several top talents, including Alexander Zverev, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, and Alex de Minaur. As a coach, Ferrero has added 13 titles to his resume, cementing his status as one of the most respected figures in the modern game.

Samuel Lopez brings a wealth of experience, having spent nine years coaching Pablo Carreno Busta and working with several other pros over the years. A former player himself, he also represented Spain at the 2000 and 2012 Olympics. Alcaraz believes that this pairing will help him succeed even more.
Alcaraz said last year, “They trust each other 100 percent and being able to travel with both, for me, it’s going to be great. I think I’m going to grow as a player thanks to them. I think we are going to work pretty hard and pretty good for the next season and the next years. Hopefully we are going to make good results together.”

mma I’m an academic turned sports writer from Raipur, India, specializing in the NFL, MMA, and tennis at The Playoffs. I previously wrote for Sportskeeda and hold a B.A. and M.A. in History. My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
