Inside the coaching squad powering Tommy Paul’s rise to the top.
Tommy Paul turned pro in 2015 and has steadily climbed the ranks, capturing four ATP singles titles, most recently at the 2024 Stockholm Open. On the big stage, he also earned a bronze medal in doubles at the Paris Olympics alongside Taylor Fritz. Known for his gritty baseline game and tactical consistency, Paul made a real breakthrough this season, reaching a career-high world No. 9 ranking in January 2025.

Solidifying his place among the sport’s elite, Paul said, “I’m proud of the work I put in. I’m more proud of the stuff that I do away from tournaments than at tournaments, to be honest. And I’m proud of my team. I think without the team that I have, I wouldn’t be where I’m at.” But which team is he referring to? Let’s dive deeper to find out.
Tommy Paul’s current coaching team includes Brad Stine, Hugo Armando, Franco Herrero and Sebastian Cozzarin.
Earlier in his career, Tommy Paul worked with Argentine duo Diego Moyano as his main coach and Gabriel Echevarría as his fitness coach. That setup began to shift around 2020 with the arrival of Brad Stine, who has since taken on the lead coaching role.
However, exact timelines regarding when other members joined Paul’s team remain unclear, as there’s limited public information about it in the public domain.

Brad Stine, Tommy Paul’s lead coach since 2020, brings nearly four decades of coaching experience to the table. Starting his career with the USTA in 1986, Stine worked closely with the US junior national team and helped develop elite talents like Jonathan Stark, Jeff Tarango, and Pete Sampras.
He also briefly served as head coach at Fresno State before joining forces with Jim Courier in 1991. Under Stine’s guidance, Courier rose to World No. 1 by 1992 and captured four Grand Slam titles.

In January 2025, Paul achieved his highest-ever ranking of world No. 9. About this, Stine stated, “I think Tommy’s just become progressively more professional in his approach to things. I would say that once he cracked the top 100 and started to see the progress of moving up a little bit.”
Backing up Brad Stine in Paul’s corner is Hugo Armando, a former pro who brings valuable tour experience and a well-rounded perspective to the team. Armando turned professional in 1997 and played through 2008, posting a 13-30 record in singles but grabbing a highlight moment with a doubles title at Delray Beach in 2007 alongside Xavier Malisse.
Paul’s camp also includes physiotherapist Sebastian Cozzarin and fitness coach Franco Herrero.

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren't noise; they're emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
