The Lynx will be home against the Indiana Fever on July 1 in championship game.
The defending champions of the Commissioner’s Cup, Minnesota Lynx produced a second-half comeback to beat the Las Vegas Aces 76-62 on Tuesday night. The ticket to championship was on stake in the final day of the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup and the Lynx booked their place for the final for the second straight season. Minnesota will now take on the Indiana Fever in the championship game on July 1.
Courtney Williams scored a team-high 20 points and she got a valuable support from Alanna Smith, who dropped a double-double with 13 rebounds and 10 points. Natisha Hiedeman and Diamond Miller added 12 points each in the reserving roles. Only two players reached in double figures for the Aces. Last match’s top performer Jewell Loyd led Las Vegas with 12 points and eight rebounds.

It was an easy scenario for the Lynx before entering to the final day of the Commissioner’s Cup as they required a win against the Aces to clinch the top spot. Minnesota would have been eliminated if they were on the losing side as Seattle Storm dispatched the Sparks in another game. The Storm (4-2) would have taken the top spot in the West as they had the tiebreaker following their June 11 win over Minnesota.
However, it wasn’t easy for Minnesota to finish at the top of the West after a solid start from Las Vegas, who built a 39-30 lead at halftime. The lynx lost Napheesa Collier to a bad back early in the third quarter. However, Minnesota went on a 11-1 run to tie the game with 5:26 left. With a 26-13 scoring edge in the third quarter helped the Lynx to open the final period with a four-point lead.

Minnesota had a 14-2 run in the starting of the quarter and took a commanding 70-54 lead. Las Vegas went on a 8-1 run but damage was not recovered. Minnesota Lynx outscored the Las Vegas Aces 46-23 in the second half to finish 5-1 in the Western Conference and catch the ticket to finale of the Commissioner’s Cup.
The Lynx will be home against the Indiana Fever on July 1 in a game that does not count in the regular-season but gives players a financial bonus. Indiana Fever punched the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup final ticket with a 88-71 victory over the Sun. Minnesota now improved to 11-1 in the regular season and will play their next game on Saturday.
