Huge Prize Money Awaits the Winning Team
The WNBA season is heating up fast, and after a thrilling few weeks of action, fans are now shifting focus to the 2025 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup. The tournament is already underway.
The New York Liberty vs. Connecticut Sun was the first game to kickstart the competition this season. And what a way to begin things off. Liberty broke multiple records in what was the WNBA history’s biggest blowout game. The hosts absolutely ravaged the Sun in a 100-52 win.
The Minnesota Lynx enter this year’s Commissioner’s Cup as strong favorites once again, hoping to defend their title with another dominant run. This year’s edition has a new franchise taking part as well: Golden State Valkyries.

The 2025 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup will take place from June 1 to June 17 with Eastern Conference teams playing 5 games each. While the Western Conference teams play 6 games each. The varying number is due to the debut of the Golden State Valkyries.
The prize money for the 2025 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup is what will attract teams to act extra seriously towards the games. The winner of the competition will get their hands on $500,000. Moreover, the amount will be split equally among the players giving a much needed financial boost. The average amount each player is likely to get is $41,700.
The fresh edition is being sponsored by Coinbase which is a cryptocurrency company. They have announced an additional $120,000 in crypto to the winning team. Moreover, each player who features in the 2025 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup will get a guaranteed $5,000 in cryptocurrency.
Meanwhile, the runner-up team will receive a $10,000 reward, giving them a solid consolation even if they fall short in the final. The purpose of the competition is far beyond sports and entertainment. Every game in the Commissioner’s Cup will contribute a set amount to charities and nonprofit causes selected by the players themselves.
It’s a unique touch that transforms the Commissioner’s Cup from just another tournament into a purpose-driven event with real-world impact.
No changes have occurred in terms of the prize for Commissioner’s Cup as the previous edition also had $500,000. However, the additional $120,000 that is being promised by sponsor Coinbase wasn’t there in the last edition. This will be the first time when a winning team gets additional $120,000 in cryptocurrency.
