Fred Vasseur talks about Ferrari's performance gains in Spain
Ferrari are making gains in the 2025 season after two successful weekend. They are currently second in the constructor standings. Charles Leclerc gave the team two successive podiums in the past two two races. This helped the team garner enough points to overtake it’s rivals.
On one hand, Ferrari is suffering from issues in pace and stability. Their drivers are under confident in the car and its abilities. Lewis Hamilton in particular is getting more and more dejected as the season plays out. The champion Briton is unable to extract any good results out of his car in 2025. His best finish in 2025 is only P4. Hamilton is yet to claim a podium for Ferrari in a regular race weekend.

While the team is getting better in the standings. There’s no doubt that Ferrari are still miles away from their 2024 performance. The team was challenging for wins in the previous season. It looked like Ferrari might have a shot at championship in the coming seasons. However, 2025 has reset their expectations once again and they are starting from square one.
Team principal Fred Vasseur is active in front of media when it comes to Ferrari. He is actively supporting his drivers on bad weekends. In particular, he is standing behind Lewis Hamilton to give him the necessary backing in face of criticism.
Although, Vasseur himself was under so called danger. There were rumors that Ferrari is looking forward to replace him with Christian Horner. A move which wasn’t successful for the Maranello outfit. He was quick to point out the fact taht Ferrari got out of a disadvantage in 2025. When they were disqualified in China, the team was lagging behind their rivals by 50-60 points. According to Vasseur, it is a positive step forward for Ferrari in 2025.
🎙️| Fred Vasseur: “If you take the picture of the [Spanish GP] race on lap 40, we were five seconds behind Norris, and I think that means the pace was much better than three or four races ago, when we were lapped in Miami.”

“I think that over the last four or five events, we did a decent job. But we also have to keep in mind that we are because we want to win races, but we don’t want to be P2. It means that we have to be focused on McLaren. I’m not speaking about the championship, but I’m speaking about pace. I think today we are not that far away with the pace on the first 40 laps.”
Fred Vasseur also talked about Lewis Hamilton’s failed race in Spain. He was optimistic considering Hamilton’s pace in the first half of the race. Vasseur claimed that Hamilton was ahead of George Russell 70% of the race. It was the safety car restart which cost him heavily, as Hamilton used up his softs more during Qualifying.
I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university's Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
