Back to Edmonton with nothing between the two teams
What a gripping Stanley Cup Final series we have going, with both teams now locked at 2-2 following Edmonton’s important Game 4 win over the Florida Panthers. Coming back from behind, the Oilers won 5-4 in yet another game that went to overtime.
After receiving a beat-down to the tune of 6-1 in Game 3, the Oilers needed to respond, and respond they did, even though Florida got off to a flying start. The competitive nature of this series is highlighted by the fact that last night’s game was the third overtime game out of the 4 played so far in this year’s Stanley Cup Final.

Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final was unreal 😱 pic.twitter.com/jhiQ3VGLdM
Game 4 started in the same fashion as the way Game 3 ended. Florida took complete control of the proceedings as Matthew Tkachuk scored his first goal of the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals, as Florida got a 5-3 power play. Within seconds of receiving the 2-man advantage, Tkachuk slipped a slapshot past Stuart Skinner’s right side.
Florida and Tkachuk took advantage of yet another power play. This time, the forward buried a rebound from close range as the puck ricocheted off Skinner. Not satisfied with the lead in hand, Florida kept pushing for a bigger lead. The Panthers’ efforts paid off through Anton Lundell’s goal, giving them a huge 3-0 advantage at the end of the first period.

There must have been some harsh words said in the Oilers’ locker room because the second period was completely different. Edmonton clawed its way back into the game, starting with a power play goal of its own as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins blasted one up high from a Leon Draisaitl assist that beat three defenders before reaching his teammate.
Edmonton’s energy remained high as defender Darnell Nurse reduced the deficit to just one goal following his high shot despite a tough angle from the left circle. The defender made yet another brilliant play on the Oilers’ third goal, coming around the back of the net and sliding the puck to the front where Vasily Podkolzin fought off two Panthers players, putting the puck past Sergei Bobrovsky’s right side.

The Oilers just became the SECOND road team in that group to win despite being down 3 goals, joining the Canadiens on March 29, 1919! pic.twitter.com/J1XiHxkBU4
With just about six and a half minutes left in the game, Jake Walman’s hard slapshot found the back of the net, putting the Oilers in front 4-3. However, Florida finally recovered, and with just under 20 seconds left, Sam Reinhart’s well-placed shot past the goalie from close to the net sent the crowd into a frenzy as the game headed to overtime tied at 4-4.
Leon Draisaitl was the hero once again, scoring the game-winning goal in overtime. Following a shift change, Draisaitl entered the ice in perfect position to receive a pass from Podkolzin, and his shot deflected off a Florida defender, going through the 5-hole for the win. And with that, the series is all squared up at 2-2, and we are now assured of at least 2 more games in this best-of-7 encounter.

This back-and-forth series has been an entertaining watch, and the highly competitive nature of all but one game has fans glued to their seats. And, with nine goals being scored last night, this marks only the third time in the Stanley Cup Finals history that both teams have combined for 7-plus goals in each of the first 4 games of the series.

The only other time it has been done was in 1980, when the Islanders defeated the Flyers in six games, with all six games having seven or more goals. Additionally, in 1918, Toronto won in five games over the Vancouver Millionaires, with the first four games having seven or more goals.
