Transfer Deadline Day 2025: All You Need To Know

Abhinav Goel

The summer transfer window is almost over and Premier League clubs have just a few days left to finalize their business. With speculation mounting and fans bracing for late drama, the big question remains: will we see any blockbuster deals in the final hours?

Liverpool are expected to test Newcastle’s resolve with a record £130m offer for striker Alexander Isak. Meanwhile, Serie A champions Napoli are closing in on Manchester United forward Rasmus Højlund. Brentford have had a bid rejected for Maximilian Beier, and Oleksandr Zinchenko could be heading out of Arsenal.

When Does the Transfer Window Close in England?

For the 2025 summer transfer window, Premier League and EFL clubs must complete their transfers by 7:00 pm BST (2:00 pm ET) on Monday, September 1. This is earlier than the traditional 11:00 pm deadline, following an agreement between the Premier League, EFL and FA to allow a more normal working routine for staff.

As usual, clubs will still have a short grace period if paperwork is submitted before the deadline. Domestic deals can be completed within two hours of the window shutting, while international transfers have until midnight to comply with FIFA’s requirements.

When Does the Window Close in Europe?

Across Europe’s top leagues, the window shuts at the same time as England: 7:00 pm BST (2:00 pm ET) on September 1 for the Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1. However, Spain (LaLiga) and Scotland will stick to the later 11:00 pm BST (6:00 pm ET) deadline. However, FIFA’s global transfer deadline officially remains at midnight.

What About Saudi Arabia?

Saudi Pro League clubs will still have time to make moves, as their transfer window remains open until Wednesday, October 8. That means European sides could still lose players to Saudi teams even after their own windows have closed.

Why Was the Window Split This Summer?

Notably, this year’s transfer window was divided into two phases: June 1–10 and June 16–September 1. The early opening allowed teams involved in the Club World Cup to reinforce their squads ahead of the tournament. FIFA rules limit transfer windows to 16 weeks per year, hence the unusual split.

With the deadline looming, fans can expect a frantic finish as clubs scramble to secure last-minute reinforcements.
