Xavi Simons has been on Tottenham’s radar for several months, with the club prioritising the signing of a creative No.10 after missing out on Eberechi Eze to Arsenal earlier in the window. Chelsea were also considering an offer, reigniting their long-standing interest in Simons dating back to his Barcelona academy days. However, Spurs accelerated talks with Leipzig to avoid another hijack.
The Dutch international enjoyed a standout season at Leipzig. He primarily operated as a left-sided No.8 in a 4-3-3 system but is also capable of playing off a striker or drifting wide into attacking positions. His versatility makes him a key asset for Tottenham, who see him as the ideal fit to supply creativity behind their forward line.

The agreement marks a major coup for Spurs, who have also missed out on Morgan Gibbs-White this summer. Manager Thomas Frank is pushing for at least two further reinforcements before deadline day, with a winger and a centre-back on the club’s list. Manchester City’s Savinho has emerged as a target, though City are unwilling to negotiate until they secure a replacement.

Tottenham Hotspur will be aiming to claim top spot in the Premier League table when they host Bournemouth in North London on Saturday. Spurs come into this clash full of confidence after a stunning 2-0 victory at the Etihad against Manchester City. Spurs manager Thomas Frank will be hopeful that Xavi Simons’ creativity and flair will make him the heartbeat of his team’s midfield for years to come.
