Alejandro Garnacho Signs 7-Year Chelsea Deal: Contract Details, Signing Interview, and More

Mayur Dedwal

The 21-year-old Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho has officially signed with Chelsea Football Club from Manchester United in a £40 million transfer. This makes it Manchester United’s fourth-largest sale in history, following Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku, and Angel Di Maria, and the largest ever for a United academy graduate.

Initial talks saw Chelsea offer £25 million, while United valued Garnacho at £50 million. However, with Garnacho wanting to leave and Chelsea in need of a winger after the departure of Noni Madueke, both parties have agreed on the personal terms as Garnacho underwent a medical in London on Friday, August 29, 2025, and the transfer was finalised.

Garnacho Transfer Fee and Contract Breakdown

Garnacho, a homegrown player who joined Manchester United’s academy from Atletico Madrid in 2020, has signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea, running until June 2032. This transfer fee, which he agreed to with Chelsea, is considered pure profit for Manchester United under Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Despite interest from other clubs like Napoli, Bayer Leverkusen, and Al-Nassr, Garnacho has shown a strong preference to join the Blues. Garnacho’s signing fulfils the need for Chelsea who joins other attacking additions like João Pedro, Liam Delap, and Estevão.

In his first interview with Chelsea’s official website, Garnacho expressed excitement about the move: “It’s an incredible moment for my family and me to join this great club. I can’t wait to get started. I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special – we’re the best team in the world! It’s amazing to be here and I’m very happy.”

Garnacho joined United’s academy from Atletico Madrid in October 2020 at age 16 and made 144 senior appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing 21 assists. Being a regular for over two seasons at Old Trafford, the Argentine will head to London as he tries to help Enzo Maresca’s left flank.

Chelsea’s summer spending reached nearly £300 million, but they recouped £314.4 million through 26 player sales or loans, balancing their books. After winning the UECL and FIFA Club World Cup 2025, Maresca will aim to push for Chelsea’s first Premier League win since the 2016/17 season.
