Tom Aspinall has been on a roll ever ever since he entered the UFC. He’s 8-1 in the UFC so far and has finished all of his opponents. He’s a dangerous fighter that has firmly established himself as the second best fighter in the heavyweight division. In 2023, Aspinall beat Sergei Pavlovich to claim the interim championship after heavyweight champion Jon Jones was forced to pull out due to an injury.
Aspinall became the first UFC British heavyweight fighter to win a UFC title, and he even went on to defend his interim belt (which is unusual) against Curtis Blaydes on July of 2024, where Aspinall knocked out his competition. However, now that he’s the number one contender and has taken down pretty much every other top fighter in the heavyweight division, Aspinall has his eyes set on the actual title which is in the hands of the UFC’s G.O.A.T, Jon Jones.
Tom Aspinall provides an update on the Jon Jones fight:

“What is holding it up right now is [Jon’s] side. That’s the truth of it…
Remember what I said… ‘I will retire Jon Jones without even fighting him’.”

The Jones vs Aspinall fight has been anticipated for a long time and even after Aspinall has done everything to get a title shot, we still do not know when or if the fight between the two will go down. The English fighter has stated countless times that he’s ready to fight Jones but Jones, on the other hand, seems like he needs a lot of his conditions met from Dana White and the UFC, before taking on the Aspinall.
One of his conditions is a huge pay day, as Bones has stated that he wants a big bag to take home, if he is to fight Aspinall. And to rub salt to the wound, MMA Journalist Ariel Helwani said that Bones wants six months to prepare for the fight against Aspinall.

This leads us to a question, is Jon Jones running away from the fight against Aspinall? We don’t really know but it sure looks like it at this point. All this anticipation and waiting has Aspinall bored and all he wants to do is get his chance at the title. The good news is, Aspinall recently provided an update of status of his fight against Jones. Let’s see what he had to say.
After Aspinal’s meeting with Hunter Campbell and Dana White, he said,
“Just finished off just now at 3:43 A.M. Just had a meeting with Dana the other UFC brass Hunter and all success. And we’ll see you next time. Big news coming!”
The way he was smiling and filled with enthusiasm at the end, could mean that Aspinall finally got the nod for the fight.

"Jon’s phone got whizzed across the room [after Alex Pereira’s loss]…
I would never celebrate anybody’s loss… but it couldn’t have happened at a better time for me."

Jones and Aspinall, as stated by Dana White earlier, were originally supposed to fight each other sometime in the summer of 2025 but now that Jones wants six months to prepare, we are looking at the fight being pushed probably to the final quarter of the year.
