‘Talks Like He’s Mike Tyson, but He’s Not’ – Leon Edwards Fires Back at the Reigning Welterweight Champ!

Eric Divakaran

The ongoing feud between Belal Muhammad and Leon Edwards seems like it is not going to stop anytime soon. The two are nowhere close to having a rematch at this point but the verbal spats continue, whether it’s on social media or press conferences. As it is with every rivals in the UFC, Edwards and Muhammad are clearly not fond of each other.

Even though the Brit lost the fight against the current welterweight champ at UFC 304, which was held on July of 2024, he still believes that he has the ability to take down Muhammad, if given the opportunity, and he recently claimed on the Ariel Helwani show that he wasn’t his usual self going against Muhammad last year and blamed the timing of the fight as a huge reason why he lost the fight. Now, the former welterweight champ is set to take on Sean Brady at UFC Fight Night 255, and hopes of defeating him to remind everyone about how lethal of a fighter he still is, and possibly set himself up for a rematch against Muhammad.

Meanwhile Muhammad has no interest in giving Edwards a title shot this soon as Edwards had made him wait for nearly three years for a chance at the title. The American rather wants to give other contenders a chance like Shavkat Rakhmonov or Sean Brady.

During a recent press conference, Edwards was asked to share his opinion on Muhammad’s tweet on him. Edwards had stated some of the reasons why he lost the fight, and Muhammad thought all it was all an excuse.

What Did Muhammad Tweet About Edwards?

After Edwards went on the Ariel Helwani show and claimed that the timing and injuries played a role in why he lost the fight at UFC 304, Muhammad tweeted-

“This guy is full of excuses that’s why Brady will beat him… I predict once Brady gets him down two or three times he’ll find a submission… because Leon’s weak mentally and he’ll have flashbacks from what I did to him.”

Leon Edwards Clapped Back at Muhammad’s Comments

In a recent press conference, Edwards was asked to share his thoughts on Muhammad’s tweet about him and he said-

“The way Belal talks is like he went out there and freaking knocked me down and dropped me… All he did was wrestled me, picked me up, put me against the cage. No damage really at the end of the fight. If anything, he was on the floor leaking… One more minute of that fight and it would have got stopped… I know he talks. What he does on the cage is two different person. He talks like he’s Mike Tyson but he’s not. It is what it is.”

The reporters kept pressing on Edwards to talk about Muhammad but the Brit was not interested.

Edwards clearly wants to fight Muhammad and retain his welterweight title but he first needs to beat Sean Brady, and possibly go through Rakhmonov, before getting his rematch against the current champ.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
