Tom Aspinall Has the “Duck” Toy Story Documented!

Eric Divakaran

Tom Aspinall has been very vocal about his desire to take on Jon Jones for the heavyweight belt. Aspinall is currently the interim champ of the heavyweight division and has remained as the interim champ for more than a year. In fact, in what was a very odd situation, Aspinall had to even defend the interim belt against Curtis Blaydes back in July of 2024. When was the last time that you heard of a interim belt being defended in the UFC?

Every division in the UFC seems to have it’s fair share of drama. Whether it’s welterweight, lightweight, heavyweight, there always seems to be a something unusual going on. In the heavyweight division, Jon Jones is the champion but Aspinall has been asking, begging in some instances, for a title shot at the real thing and is tired of holding the interim belt.

Aspinall knocked out Pavlovich in November of 2023 and so far all he’s been able to do is go on various podcasts or post on social media about his frustration with the heavyweight champ not showing any interest in fighting him and delaying the inevitable. Jones wants “that f*ck you money,” and Aspinall wants to take the belt away from the heavyweight legend. So why all the wait?

Aspinall was seen with a toy duck in his hand, while enjoying watching the fights at UFC Fight Night 255: Brady vs Edwards, when the camera focused on him during the event. What did the toy duck mean? Let us explain it in detail.

Aspinall Calls Out Jones With a Toy Duck on His Hand

Aspinall purchased a toy duck recently and took it with him to the O2 Arena. He flashed his duck for the camera and everybody was left confused as to what message he was trying to deliver.

Jon Jones has not shown a lot of interest in taking on the interim champ. At first it was because he wanted to take on more established fighters rather than a fighter that’s on the come up. Since Pereira lost his bout against Ankalaev at UFC 313, Jones taking on Pereira is highly unlikely now. Then later it was because he wanted a huge pay day if he was to take on Aspinall. After that, Ariel Helwani claimed that Bones wants nearly half a year to prepare for a fight against Aspinall. All of these reasons lean towards many, including Aspinall, believing that Jones could be ducking the Brit.

Hence the toy duck. When Aspinall was headed to watch UFC Fight Night at London, he purchased a toy duck and said,

“Got my duck. Let the people know who’s ducking.”

While Aspinall wants his title shot and is desperate to fight Jones, he still respects Bones a lot. Many fans believe that since Aspinall has been calling out Jones repeatedly for a title shot, he is disrespecting the champ. However, that has never been the case and the man simply wants to be the best in his division.

That is not hating in our eyes. In the Ariel Helwani show, Aspinall gave Jones his flowers and said,

“I also agree with the notion that he deserves every penny that he makes. He has done everything he can.”

Recently, there has been some development in the Jones vs Aspinall situation. Bones reportedly wants six months to prepare if he is to take on Aspinall, and the interim champ announced that there is some “big news coming,” after a meeting with Dana White and Hunter Campbell. We sincerely hope that the “News,’ Aspinall was talking about is related to a fight between him and Bones as the fans have been anticipating the fight between the two for a long time.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
