Rio Ferdinand and Jamie Carragher Defend Alexander-Arnold After He Receives Hostile Reaction.
Life hasn’t been easy for the Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold who recently announced his departure. There have been numerous rumours about Trent joining Real Madrid from the start of next season. No official announcement has come from any of the sides involved, but Liverpool fans are not happy.
And they’re making sure the defender knows it. Fans booed Trent during the Reds’ 2-2 draw against Arsenal on Sunday. It seems a number of former players including Rio Ferdinand did not like it. Trent entered the match in the second half, but he was met with a chorus of jeers from sections of the Anfield crowd.
I can’t believe @LFC fans booing one of their own 🤯

I understand that some of you guys are not happy with his decision etc BUT to boo @TrentAA after he has won the lot with you is baffling! Didn’t cost you a penny
The defender has given over two decades of his life at the club. The homegrown talent who was once a favourite of the fans, received boos upon his substitution and every subsequent touch. Some fans also chanted names of Steven Gerrard and Conor Bradley, perceived as indirect jabs at Alexander-Arnold.
Reacting on social media, former Manchester United defender Ferdinand posted on X: “I can’t believe @LFC fans booing one of their own. I understand that some of you guys are not happy with his decision etc BUT to boo @TrentAA after he has won the lot with you is baffling! Didn’t cost you a penny.”

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher echoed Ferdinand’s sentiments during Sky Sports’ post-match analysis. He admitted that he was surprised by how many fans expressed their discontent. He iterated on how playing for Real Madrid is a dream for many players. Carragher also stood firmly against booing any player of one’s own team, saying:
“When there is a crowd of 60,000, there is undoubtedly going to be some people unhappy… but booing one of your own players is not for me. Most players in that dressing room probably want to play for Real Madrid. Supporters fall for it that players love them, and then they move on.”

In the midst of it, his teammate Andy Robertson offered heartfelt words about his close friend. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said, “I’m disappointed to lose my best mate. He’s made me a better player… I love him as a friend and a player. He’ll be missed.”
Alexander-Arnold has made 353 appearances for Liverpool. He has won eight trophies with the Reds in his time. Now, as he is expected to join Real Madrid this summer, his likely farewell appearance at Anfield will come against Crystal Palace on May 25. Thus, marking the end of a decorated spell at his boyhood club.
