Ancelotti Set To Step Down From Real Madrid To Join Brazil This Month.

Carlo Ancelotti is poised to begin his new stint as he is set to leave Real Madrid. The widely successful manager has officially been appointed the new head coach of the Brazil national team. As per The Athletic, the Italian tactician will assume his new role from May 26.

This comes immediately after the news from the journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano that Xabi Alonso is set to begin his stint at Real Madrid from the FIFA Club World Cup in June. Hence, Ancelotti’s departure from Los Blancos was going to be sooner rather than later anyway.

This is just one day after Real Madrid’s final La Liga game against Real Sociedad. Ancelotti, 65, now becomes the first foreign manager in the history of the Brazil men’s national team. His appointment follows the dismissal of Dorival Junior in March.

Dorival spent only 14 months in charge after what can be assessed as a tough time for the Selecao. The Italian’s debut with the Brazil team is scheduled for June 6 in a World Cup qualifier against Ecuador. The Selecao will also face Paraguay five days later on June 11.

The transition was the result of months of careful negotiation. Brazilian businessman Diego Fernandes was leading talks on behalf of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). Ancelotti had one year left on his Madrid contract. However, with a terrible season for Madrid, the move has been made faster.

End of an Era at Real Madrid

Ancelotti’s departure marks the end of his second spell at Real Madrid. He widely enjoyed considerable success this time around, including two Champions League titles and two La Liga crowns. However, this season has been disappointing for the Spanish giants.

They are currently trailing Barcelona at the top in the title race. They suffered two cup defeats to arch rivals in El Clasico and twice more in the league. Their recent Clasico loss has increased their point gap to seven points with only three league games left. Reflecting on the loss, Ancelotti stated via the club’s media:

“It was a great game between two great teams, so I have nothing to reproach my team for in terms of attitude and commitment. It didn’t go well, but we competed.” Ancelotti’s replacement at Madrid, Xabi Alonso, has already confirmed his departure from Bayer Leverkusen.
