Arsenal Boss Discusses Injuries, Partey’s Return, and Mindset Ahead of Crucial Tie in Paris.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta faced the press ahead of their Premier League clash against Bournemouth. In that press conference, he spoke about a number of things including his side’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-final first leg.

Along with updates ahead of their Premier League match, Arteta also msentioned his thoughts about the crucial return fixture in Paris next Wednesday. Giving squad updates in the press conference, Arteta revealed that his squad remains hampered by injuries.

However, he’s hopeful about some returns before Wednesday. Talking about the huge number of players he has been missing in games for some time now including in their match against PSG in the Champions League semi-final first leg. Arteta said:

“I was very shocked just before the game against PSG at home because I was walking into the dressing room and suddenly I saw all of them together sitting. Tomiyasu, Calafiori, Gabriel, Thomas Partey, Havertz, Jesus, Jorginho – that’s a starting line-up. And we don’t have them. But then I felt joy about the team… and I felt pride about how the boys and the staff and the club are reacting.”

Injury Concerns and Fitness Updates

Arteta confirmed that Riccardo Calafiori and Jorginho are still out but they could still return before the end of the season. He said, “Jorginho’s got a bit more complicated than expected but he’s recovering well… I think he will gradually integrate in the team.”

Kai Havertz also remains a doubt but may feature later this month. “If everything goes the way it’s going at the moment… he will have a chance to play a few games here in the season,” Arteta added.

The big boost for Arsenal, however, is the return of Thomas Partey after suspension. His availability could be pivotal. Both against Bournemouth and against PSG on Wednesday. This will allow Declan Rice to resume his box-to-box role in midfield.

Focused on the Task Ahead

Arteta admitted that managing players’ emotions before the PSG clash is vital: “The only thing we can control is our performances, our emotional state and how well we are performing. We know how important it [Premier League] is still.”

About managing the squad against Bournemouth ahead of the crucial UCL match, Arteta said, “We will assess how the squad is… set Sunday up with the players that we have available and do the line-up and the possible subs.”

Liverpool have already lifted the Premier League title this season. Now, Arsenal’s target is to end the season in second place in the league. Even so, it’s clear that Arteta has one eye on Wednesday’s match and understandably so. He could make squad rotations with win against PSG in mind, especially with Ousmane Dembele still uncertain for the match.
