Barca Captain Set To Start Against Real Valladolid As Hansi Flick Confirms Return News.
Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is set to make his much-awaited return to the starting XI this weekend. He has fully recovered from a serious knee injury that sidelined him for over seven months. Hansi Flick confirmed the news during the press conference ahead of their La Liga clash against Real Valladolid.
When asked about the club captain, the head coach replied with a laugh saying, “Yes, Marc will be back tomorrow. We can finish the press conference now.” He added, “Marc is on a good path and his performances in training are fantastic.”

The 33-year-old last played in September before he underwent surgery to repair a ruptured patella tendon in his right knee. The goalkeeper sustained the injury during a match against Villarreal. He already returned to the squad for the Copa del Rey final win over Real Madrid last week. However, he remained on the bench during that match.
MATS will return to the squad taking the baton from Wojciech Szczesny. Flick’s words reflected how his one eye remains on the upcoming Champions League semi-final second leg match against Inter Milan on Wednesday. However, he also emphasised that La Liga remains a top priority.
Flick said, “La Liga is most important now, it is the best possible recognition for being at the highest level throughout the season. That’s why a win is vital.” Barcelona are currently leading Real Madrid by four points at the top of the table. They have five matches left to play including an El Clasico on May 11.
Whereas, Valladolid are sitting bottom of the table and have already been relegated. It is expected that Flick will rotate his squad. He said, “We now have to listen to the medical team to determine which player needs rest.” He noted the risks of player overwork. Especially after defender Jules Kounde picked up a knock against Inter.

The coach also provided updates on injured stars Robert Lewandowski and Alejandro Balde. Lewandowski missed the Champions League first leg with a hamstring issue. However, the Polish striker could return for the crucial second leg. Flick noted, “Robert is doing very well and his progress is much better than we expected. He might be back on Tuesday.”
Ter Stegen’s return has been quite beneficial for Barcelona at this time as they chase both domestic and European honours. It is expected that Szczesny will take the place under the bar in the coming Champions League match on Wednesday. Even so, Ter Stegen’s leadership at the back could prove vital in the season’s final stretch.
