Justin Gaethje emerged victorious in their first encounter at UFC 286 in March 2023, winning by majority decision after three rounds of intense striking exchanges. The fight lived up to all expectations as both men traded heavy shots throughout. Early on, Fiziev looked sharp with his combinations and even landed a flying knee that would have dropped most fighters. But Gaethje’s legendary durability kept him in the fight, and he began to take over in the second round.

Another banger ass fight which is expected when gaethje is fighting like I can't think of one fight he's been in that wasn't a banger but imo he clearly beats fiziev and I mean really got to work in this fight despite everyone thinking he'd lose pic.twitter.com/9FsI5ohKM3
As the battle progressed, Gaethje’s jab became increasingly effective, causing significant damage to both of Fiziev’s eyes. While Fiziev had his moments, particularly with body kicks and powerful combinations, Gaethje’s pressure and precision eventually won the judges over.
The scorecards came back with one judge seeing it even at 28-28, while the other two scored it 29-28 for Gaethje. The crowd gave both men a standing ovation after the final bell. This was a testament to the incredible show they put on!

The betting odds at BetMGM for their UFC 313 rematch show Fiziev as the favorite at -160, while Gaethje sits as the underdog at +135. This means that a $10 bet on Gaethje gets fans a payout of $23.50 while the same for Fiziev gets $16.25.
These numbers reflect several factors working against the 36-year-old Gaethje. Since their first fight, he suffered a devastating knockout loss to Max Holloway at UFC 300. This has raised questions about his durability after years of brutal wars. Additionally, Gaethje has admitted to fighting “too safely” lately, potentially moving away from the reckless style that made him a fan favorite.

For Fiziev, the odds show confidence in his abilities despite coming off an 18-month layoff due to a knee injury suffered against Mateusz Gamrot. Taking this fight on just 10 days’ notice after Dan Hooker’s withdrawal however can alter the equation as the fight progresses.
