Jon Jones Vows to Freely Vacate UFC Heavyweight Title Amid Fan Questions on X

Eric Divakaran

UFC’s heavyweight division is arguably the most active so far in 2025, but we are certainly not talking about fights inside the octagon, but rather on social media. The Jones vs. Aspinall saga hasn’t gotten anywhere so far, and the only battles we can witness for now, is the verbal spats thrown at each other. Jones believe that a fight against Aspinall would not be legacy defining, and has asked for a huge purse if he has to take on Aspinall inside the octagon. Similarly, Aspinall has been practically begging for the UFC to do something about the whole situation, and so far we’ve heard nothing yet. While both the fighters claim that they know something about what the UFC plans to do next, the two have been reluctant to give out the answers as they are legally contracted to the UFC.

The back-and-forth on social media between the two has kept the fans entertained. As Tom Aspinall already stated multiple times that he believes he’s the current heavyweight champion and has completely ignored Jones’ presence. Meanwhile Jones has threatened the crowd with retirement as one of the options, but he also said that he could “Pop out and show ’em.” UFC commentator Jon Anik recently stated that Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall may or may not happen in December 2025.

Jon Jones Signals Intent to Vacate UFC Heavyweight Title in Fan Q&A on X

At this point, nothing can be taken seriously, but Jones’ recent statement was a surprise that has sent shockwaves across the MMA world. He stated that he would “freely” vacate his title, responding to fans amid ongoing speculation abut his future in the fighting world. The two-division champ who fought last November, has been at odd with fans. Jones’ comment, including “Veni, vidi, vici,” suggest that he’s ready to give up the belt on his own terms.

Jones responded to various other random fans on social media and also went on to diss Aspinall saying, “Unfortunately, my boy is not as special as his fan base thinks he is right now. I’ve seen Tom get tapped out twice now by two different people. Time will show. Here today gone tomorrow.”

He also typed out his thoughts talking about how he’s the face of the UFC, and it’s in “UFC’s best interest,” to keep presenting him as the champion and not Aspinall.

While we wait for Dana White and the UFC to announce what they may have already told Aspinall and Jones, the on-going public spat will continue to progress as the months go by and Aspinall’s frustration with Jones increases further.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
