After former lightweight title holder, Islam Makhachev departed for the welterweight division, he did not get to keep the strap. He was stripped off his title, and will now face Jack Della Maddalena for the welterweight title instead. Due to this, the lightweight title is currently vacant and UFC’s President Dana White set up a fight between Charles Oliveira and Ilia Topuria, to decide the next champion that’ll hold the lightweight crown.

Topuria has remained very confident in his abilities, and believes that he’ll walk away with the lightweight championship, after either knocking out Oliveira or making him submitt. Topuria is the sizeable favorite to win the fight, and is trying to capture the lightweight belt, after becoming a featherweight champion in October 2024.
At UFC 318, Dustin Poirier is set to take on Max Holloway, which will be his retirement fight after a stellar career that has lasted for over a decade. So far, Max Holloway who is widely know as one of the greatest boxers in the UFC, has never won a fight against Poirier, losing both the bouts against him on Feb 2012 via submission, and on April 14, 2019 by unanimous decision. The two are some of the best fighters in the UFC, and this promises to be an exciting match coming up.
