‘Don’t Know If I Wanna Call It Retired’ – Jon Jones Responds to “Retired” Rumors, States He Can “Pop out and Show’em”

Eric D

The UFC heavyweight division has no light at the end of the tunnel as champion Jon Jones addresses swirling rumors about his retirement while keeping fans confused and guessing about a potential blockbuster fight with interim titleholder Tom Aspinall. Despite UFC President Dana White’s attempt to finalize the long-awaited bout between the two, no official announcements have been made, leaving the entire UFC fans on the edge of their seats for Jon Jones’ next move. All White has been able to do so far, is make promises which may not be fulfilled with the way things are shaping up.

Jones, who fought in November of 2024, has sent continuous mixed signals about his future in the UFC, with his most recent comments suggesting that he’s not fully committed to calling it quits just yet. As questions and speculations continue to rise, interim champ Aspinall and his fans are getting tired and frustrated waiting for a shot at the undisputed title. In fact, since Aspinall has been sidelined since his last fight, he’s focusing majority of his time growing his YouTube channel.

Jones’ Cryptic Message and Aspinall’s Frustration

Jon Jones decided to respond to a fan with a post on X addressing retirement rumors saying, “I don’t know if I wanna call it retired, I feel like I’ll always have an ability to pop out and show em. I’ve had many breaks throughout my career, my identity outside of fighting is well intact. I’m genuinely enjoying life, I’m growing in different ways.” This came after Jones reportedly confirmed his retirement in a FaceTime call with MMA fighter Kamal Gadzhiev. But later, he dismissed a fan’s claim on X that he’s wasting Aspinall’s prime by stalling around.

Meanwhile for Aspinall, he recently talked to the ‘Mighty Mouse’ Demetrious Johnson and expressed his mental strain for all of the drama surrounding Jones and his antics. He said, “It’s kinda difficult mentally but this is the fight against Jon Jones.” The interim champ hasn’t fought since defeating Curtis Blaydes in July of 2024, and has been waiting ever since for a shot at the title. He is only two months away from not fighting inside the octagon for a year straight, and we wonder if the fight will ever get announced as Dana White has promised in the past.
