“I’m Going To Choke You Out” – Gunther Promises To Destroy Pat McAfee at Backlash

Pat McAfee and Gunther finally came face to face against each other for the last-time on WWE Monday Night Raw. These two have created a significant history since April 21, 2024 during Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania 41. 

Gunther notably originally attacked Michael Cole after losing his World Heavyweight Championship to Jey Uso at WrestleMania 41. Pat McAfee tried to save his broadcast partner only to have Gunther choke him out and put him to sleep. The WWE suspended Gunther for his actions. Pat McAfee however, challenged him for a match at Backlash. So, what happened when The Ring General and Pat McAfee finally faced each other inside the ring on Monday Night Raw.

Gunther and Pat McAfee Trash Talk Each Other

Pat McAfee finally faced Gunther inside the ring on Monday Night Raw. This was their last meeting before Backlash. Raw GM Adam Pearce advised both of them to keep their interactions professional. Pat McAfee said that Gunther is comfortable and will overlook his opponent. This will allow Pat McAfee to beat Gunther at Backlash. He will also prove that the comfortable version of Gunther is soft (via WWE on YouTube).

Gunther then stated that Backlash on Saturday will be his first match since WrestleMania 41. He will give Pat McAfee his undivided attention throughout the match. The Ring General also revealed that when the bell rings at Backlash, he is going to beat Pat McAfee up, maul him, grip him by the head and drive it into the mat. He promised Pat McAfee that he is going to choke him out until McAfee drops like a wet towel. Lastly, Gunther informed Pat McAfee that only God’s grace can lift his arms off his throat at Backlash on Saturday. He then shoved McAfee and left the ring, thereby ending the segment.

What Is Going To Happen Between Gunther and Pat McAfee at Backlash 2025?

Pat McAfee and Gunther will be going head-to-head at Backlash on May 10, 2025. Gunther will probably defeat Pat McAfee in the match. The betting odds according to BetOnline have predicted Gunther to come out as the winner from the battle as per reports. However, the WWE creative might pull a swerve during the match. 

WWE can do this by inserting one of Gunther’s future opponents to interfere in the match. This will allow the former Indianapolis Colts member to employ some of his high-flying tactics and defeat The Ring General in the process. This will also allow Pat McAfee to prove that Gunther overlooked his opponent once again in the match and hence, is soft. The WWE creative team can then start Gunther’s next storyline with the wrestler that interfered in his match. This might turn The Ring General to an even more despicable heel.

The WWE Universe will only have to wait till May 10, 2025 to find out whether Gunther chokes out Pat McAfee or Pat McAfee proves Gunther to be soft.
