The Oilers were unable to add to their Stanley Cup wins after a 4-2 defeat to the Florida Panthers!!
After their game 5 win over the Dallas Stars, the Edmonton Oilers were back in the Stanley Cup Final to take on the Florida Panthers in what was a rematch of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final. As revenge took center stage, Connor McDavid and his buddies on ice looked to lay the ghosts of their failure from a year ago.
Clinching the superior regular season record, Edmonton had the advantage of playing more games at home. McDavid and forward Leon Draisaitl were in superb touch this year and continued to produce in the playoffs as well.
Unfortunately, the Canadian-based franchise was unable to topple the defending Champions en route to lifting yet another Stanley Cup. Nevertheless, here is a look at how they have fared through the years and how many Stanley Cups the franchise has won to date.

The Oilers have won a total of 5 Stanley Cups up to now. Founded in 1971, the team’s first season was the 1972-73 season as one of the founding members of the World Hockey Association (WHA).
The Oilers became part of the NHL following the WHA’s merger in 1979. Since 1979, Edmonton has gone on to win 5 Stanley Cups, which is tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins for sixth place. The only other teams ahead of the Oilers are the Montreal Canadiens (24), Toronto Maple Leafs (13), Detroit Red Wings (11), Boston Bruins (6), and the Chicago Blackhawks (6).

The Oilers’ most dominant era came during the mid to late 1980s, which is when they won all of their Stanley Cups. The Oilers first lifted the cup in 1984 when they defeated the 4-time defending Champions, the New York Islanders, in 5 games. Their last win came in 1990, once again clinching the series in 5 games, but this time against the Boston Bruins.

Edmonton won the Stanley Cup during the 1989-90 season, the last one in franchise history after Gretzky’s departure from the team in 1988.
The ‘Great One’, Wayne Gretzky, was part of the dominant Oilers team during the mid-1980s and helped them win 4 Stanley Cups between 1984 to 1988. However, after leading the Oilers to their fourth Stanley Cup in 1988, he was shockingly traded to the Los Angeles Kings.
