It was clear that Dominic Mysterio had no chance of beating Rusev in a fair match, which led him to resort to underhanded tactics. He held the referee from behind and then delivered a Low Blow to Rusev, A move mostly used by the late Eddie Guerrero. The referee was blindsided and didn’t see what happened inside the ring. Dominic Mysterio rolled Rusev over and secured a pinfall victory to retain his title.
This was not the only time Dominic Mysterio tried to cheat during the match. He hit Rusev with the championship belt and then threw the belt towards him, falling straight down, as if to depict Rusev hitting him with it, another move from late Eddie Guerrero. The referee, however, saw the entire thing and refused to be fooled by the trickery.

Rusev was dominating the match to the extent that he would have ended the match anytime. He went for an Accolade, a move that has made Sheamus tap out, but Dominic Mysterio slipped out of his grip. Dominic Mysterio was quick to move out of the ring multiple times when Rusev tried to secure a pinfall victory.
It was surprising that Finn Balor and JD McDonagh escorted Dominic Mysterio towards the ring before the match started, after what happened last week. The Judgment Day, however, didn’t help Dominic Mysterio during the entire match, hinting at a rift in Judgment Day. Dominic Mysterio once again proved that he comes prepared for the worst.

Dominic Mysterio has defended his title against AJ Styles with the help of Judgment Day, and when they weren’t helping, he got El Grande Americanos to help him. His unfair tactics gave him the victory tonight when no one was there to help him against Rusev, keeping his title reign intact for 162 days and counting.
