Cooper Kupp is officially a free agent!
The Cooper Kupp situation in Los Angeles hit a new low. Normally, in the NFL’s offseason, the main talking points are restricted to contract extensions for players looking to get paid and teams willing to pay them with long-lasting negotiations, at times even until the start of the new season. We refer to such issues as contract sagas.
This year though, there is a different type of mini-saga, if you will, where the Los Angeles Rams were looking at various options to move on from their star wide receiver Cooper Kupp. They explored the idea of a trade and had made it clear to the wideout that only Championship-caliber teams would be considered.
Then came the news that if they don’t find a trade partner by the time the new league season starts, they will release their Super Bowl LVI MVP. And finally, the dreaded has happened with the Rams deciding to cut ties with Kupp as no trade could materialize.
Moving on from Kupp at this point seems like the only logical option given that the Rams went ahead and signed his replacement, Davante Adams, during free agency’s tampering period. In any case, now that Kupp is no longer a Ram, here are some of the best fits for him heading into the 2025 season.
The Washington native is already 31 years old and by the time the new regular season gets underway, he would have turned 32. Indeed, Kupp still has a few good years to offer, but from his age and injury standpoint, it would be wise for him to consider joining a team that can challenge for rings.
The Dallas Cowboys are in need of another quality receiver. In CeeDee Lamb they have a true WR1, but beyond that they need better production from another receiver. Dak Prescott will also have another quality receiver to throw to and provided Kupp can remain healthy, the Cowboys will have a substantially better receivers room.

Josh Allen may have won the MVP last season, and kudos to him for pulling that off. Frankly speaking, it looked like the Bills would have a mediocre season last year considering so many of their weapons on offense and top defenders had left the team. Gone were Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis and Allen had to make do with whatever little help he had.
Khalil Shakir looked good and Keon Coleman should be even better in his second year, but adding Cooper Kupp to the mix will give them a big boost. Moreover, the Bills will provide one of the best opportunities for a Super Bowl run.
Let’s face it, the New England Patriots are a long way away from making it to a Super Bowl this year. Having said that, they have a ton of cap space and they could be willing to spend on a player of Kupp’s stature, especially since Drake Maye is on his rookie deal. Although Kupp won’t be the answer completely, he could fit into a WR2 role as the Patriots look elsewhere for their WR1.
If Kupp were to join the Seahawks, which in reality could be well worth considering, he would join one of the Rams’ divisional rivals. He would get the chance to play against LA twice a year and show them exactly what they are missing. But, more importantly, he could help the Seahawks with their rebuild.
The departures of DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett have left a huge hole to fill, and even though Seattle’s future lies on the able shoulders of Jaxon Smith-Njigba, signing Kupp would provide them with a great option at WR2. Furthermore, quarterback Sam Darnold is coming off a career-year in Minnesota, and he could use someone like Kupp as another option to throw to.

Detroit could use Cooper Kupp as their WR3 who could lend them a hand by working in the slot. The Lions are already set on the outside with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, but need another quality receiver to be their third option. Joining the Lions would also mean reuniting with quarterback Jared Goff with whom he has good chemistry.
