Rams getting ready to release Kupp if a trade doesn't take place
The Los Angeles Rams are hellbent on moving on from their wide receiver Cooper Kupp. The latest news from LA is that Kupp will be released by the team should no trade take place this offseason. Kupp, who has been the mainstay of the Rams’ wide receiver room for the past 8 seasons, will be playing for a different team in 2025, regardless of whether he gets traded or not.

This latest information comes on the back of the Rams having just signed free agent Davante Adams to a two-year, $46 million deal. Despite being just less than one year apart in age, and commanding nearly similar salaries on a yearly basis, the Rams’ decision to pair Adams alongside Puka Nacua in place of Kupp is an interesting one for sure.
The main problem with Kupp has been the amount of games he has missed over the past three seasons due to injuries. Kupp’s best year came in 2021 when he featured in all 17 regular season games and all 4 postseason games, being the driving force on the offense as the Rams went on to lift the Lombardi Trophy that year.
Kupp earned the triple crown by leading the league in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns in the regular season and bagged the Super Bowl MVP as well.
Unfortunately, though, the wide receiver’s production has taken quite a hit following 2021. Since then, Kupp has played in just 9, 12, and 12 games respectively. What Adams brings to the table for LA is a healthier and a more reliable alternative while also being a slightly cheaper option.

In early February, the Rams informed Kupp of their decision to move on from him. They told him they would look for suitable teams for him and his family where he could continue fighting for another ring. The veteran receiver then posted a long message on social media making his opinions known to fans.
“I was informed that the team will be seeking a trade immediately and will be working with me and my family to find the right place to continue competing for championships. I don’t agree with the decision and always believed it was going to begin and end in LA.”

Soon after Kupp’s post went viral, many potential landing spots had him reuniting with former quarterback Jared Goff in Detroit. While this could be a possibility, and maybe one Kupp would even favor given how well the team has been playing of late, the star receiver has other options as well such as the Cowboys, Ravens, or maybe even the Chargers.

The Cowboys are an option for both parties to consider. Dallas could use a player of his caliber who will be a reliable number two option for CeeDee Lamb. As for Kupp, joining the Cowboys could help them get back to winning ways and a potential deep playoff run.
The Ravens have been a strong contender from the AFC for the past few seasons. They have come very close to going all the way, but could use Kupp to add depth to their receiver room. Currently led by Zay Flowers, the Ravens have decent pass catchers but the addition of Kupp could catapult them to a higher level.
This move could make sense more from a geographical point than anything else. Kupp would not have to go anywhere and the only change will be the organization he plays for. Having said that, the Chargers could be close to becoming a Championship-caliber team now that head coach Jim Harbaugh has a full offseason to work with.
