A full breakdown of Canelo Alvarez vs. William Scull, with Records, H2H and Tale of the Tape
Canelo “Saul” Alvarez is set to face William Scull for the second time after choosing to fight Edgar Berlanga instead of fulfilling the IBF’s mandatory defense against Scull. That decision cost Alvarez his IBF title, which Scull went on to claim with a unanimous decision victory over Vladimir Shishkin in October 2024.
Now, Alvarez and Scull will meet on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to determine the undisputed super middleweight champion. Scull enters the ring with a perfect 23-0 record and a 39.1% knockout rate, while Alvarez brings experience and power, boasting a 62-2-2 record with a 62.9% knockout rate.

Alvarez will put his WBC, WBO, WBA, and Ring Magazine super middleweight titles on the line, while Scull defends his IBF belt. For Alvarez, it’s a chance to reclaim undisputed status at 168 pounds. For Scull, it’s the biggest challenge of his career and an opportunity to walk away with four more world titles.
Alvarez, the former undisputed super middleweight champion, grew up as one of eight brothers in the Alvarez family of Jalisco. All of his brothers are professional boxers, including Rigoberto Alvarez, a former WBA interim world champion. Canelo began boxing at age 13 and quickly made his mark in the amateur circuit, winning silver at the Junior Mexican National Championship in 2004 and gold in 2005.
Alvarez ended his amateur career with a 44-12 record before turning professional at just 15 years old. Within five years, he became the youngest WBC light middleweight titleholder in 2011 and, as they say, the rest is history. Today, Alvarez holds a remarkable 62-2-2 record with 39 knockouts, his only losses coming against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Dmitry Bivol.
