From wrestling boys in high school to becoming a UFC champion, the once-tomboyish former UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion Miesha Tate is now ranked No. 12 in the division. After her early success as a state champion wrestler, Tate transitioned into MMA, where she made her amateur debut against Elizabeth Posener, a fight she lost but one that fueled her competitive drive. She bounced back with five straight wins, wrapping up her amateur career with a 5-1 record.

Tate made her professional debut in November 2007, earning a decision win over Jan Finney before suffering a knockout loss to Kaitlin Young in her next outing. With a strong wrestling foundation, Tate developed into a skilled grappler and eventually earned a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Competing at 135 pounds, Tate claimed her first professional title in April 2009 by defeating Liz Carreiro to win the FCF Women’s Bantamweight Championship. Tate later captured the Strikeforce Bantamweight title in 2011 and made her UFC debut in 2013. Her career reached a high point in March 2016 when she submitted Holly Holm via rear-naked choke to win the UFC Bantamweight Championship.

Later that year, Tate announced her retirement, citing mental health struggles. However, she returned to the octagon in July 2021. As of now, her professional record stands at 20 wins and 9 losses.

Miesha Tate is scheduled to take on the UFC Bantamweight 10th-ranked Yana Santos on May 3, 2025, at UFC Des Moines in Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.

Miesha Tate Last Fight

Tate’s last fight was against Julia Avila, back in December 2023 at UFC on ESPN: Dariush vs. Tsarukyan, which she won via submission. Early in the third round, Tate took Avila’s back and locked in a tight face crank, forcing the tap, which was the first in Avila’s career. Considered versatile ahead of the bout, Avila couldn’t withstand Tate’s renowned grappling, ultimately suffering a dominating defeat.
