Russell on the other hand has been leading the team with great results to his name. Overall, Mercedes Formula 1 team are facing a balanced Formula 1 season in 2025. Mercedes F1 had a great start to the season in 2025. They claimed a P3 and P4 finish to start the season on a very strong note. Mercedes drivers were both racing well giving the team the necessary push. George Russell claimed 4 podiums in 5 races at the start of the season. Meanwhile, Kimi Antonelli was giving Russell a run for his money. The young Italian was only slightly behind Russell in the race and qualifying sessions. The team was making a lot of progress in the first two months.
Mercedes went slightly out of form during the triple header weekends but they were able to bounce back. George Russell brought forth his and the team’s first win for 2025 at the Canadian Grand Prix. It was the best weekend for Mercedes as they had both cars on the podium. The Miami Grand Prix Sprint was yet another good weekend for the team. Kimi Antonelli was able to claim his first pole position during the Sprint.
The team is off to a great start in 2025. Both drivers have been performing up to the mark. The team also brought forth some upgrades which were able to get them forward among the top teams. However, for the past two weekends, Mercedes have been lagging behind the competitors slightly. The only bad weekend that Silver Arrows faced in the first half of the season was the Monaco Grand Prix weekend. It was the first and only time both Mercedes finished out of points as of July 2025.

Mercedes F1 are racing with the strongest pair on the grid after McLaren F1. Russell and Antonelli have never let down their team. George Russell has been the perfect mentor and team leader bringing in amazing results from the very first race of the season. Russell is also a part of the 2025 championship battle. However, his chances are rather bleak due to the huge gap in front with the McLarens.
Through the ups and downs of the season so far, your support means the world to us ❤️

Kimi Antonelli is the super-rookie of the 2025 season. From the very first race he was able to race against and completely overpower the veterans. Antonelli goes toe to toe against George Russell and other veteran Formula 1 drivers. He is a favourite among the rookies for a podium during a race. Antonelli’s talents shone brightly during the Canadian Grand Prix. He was able to make an aggressive move on the championship leader Oscar Piastri to clinch a P3. The young Italian has also made some slight mistakes including his crash with Verstappen at Austria.
The team is working in a perfect harmony this season with both drivers giving their best. The only issue lies with the recent rumours spreading around about George Russell and Max Verstappen. Russell is confident about staying at Mercedes but the reports point otherwise.
Here’s a comparison of Mercedes and their driver’s results compared to the previous season-
| (2024 – 2025) | Mercedes AMG Formula 1 | George Russell – GBR | Kimi Antonelli – ITA |
| Standings | 4 – 3 | 7 – 4 | NA – 7 |
| Points | 221 – 210 | 111 – 147 | NA – 63 |
| Wins | 2 – 1 | 1 – 1 | NA – 0 |
| Podiums | 4 – 6 | 2 – 5 | NA – 1 |
Needless to say, Mercedes F1 are claiming a significant improvement this season. The statistics may look mediocre on paper. However, the team is performing much more consistently in the 2025 season. Kimi Antonelli has been a perfect substitute for Lewis Hamilton so far. The Silver Arrows are not missing their champion too much in the current championship season.
Mercedes F1’s only challenge lies ahead with the huge gap they have compared to the McLarens. The team is on equal footing with Scuderia Ferrari but if they want to make a mark before the 2025 season, Mercedes need to secure at least a P2 in the constructor’s standings and one driver in top-5 in the driver’s standings.

The team needs overcome the slight lapse of pace they have been facing in some weekends. One weekend, it looks like the Silver Arrows are gunning for pole position but the other weekend, Russell and Antonelli find it difficult to navigate the Q3. If the team wants better results they need to upgrade and optimise their car for a consistent pace on every track. The upcoming race in Belgium is high speed track and Mercedes need to make sure that the gap to the faster cars is not too much. Spa needs a strong qualifying finish to make mark in the Grand Prix. It is also a sprint weekend so the team should aim to claim the most points right from the get go.
Mercedes Formula 1 are in a better shape than Ferrari. They have a strong chance to snatch the P2 in constructor’s standings from Ferrari. With the way things are, their drivers are going to claim more podiums. Kimi Antonelli is going to lag behind Russell but he has at least one more podium to win this season.
nhl I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
