Red Bull Racing had a fall from grace in the 2025 season. Right from the get go, it was clear that the team has lost a of performance compared to their dominant start in 2022. Red Bull Racing was suffering from major losses since the start of the season. They lost their best aerodynamicist- Adrian Newey to Aston Martin and their sporting director- Jonathan Wheatley to Sauber. The Bulls were also under fire for replacing Sergio Perez with Liam Lawson for the 2025 season.
The first two races of the season repeated the same story for them. Once again, Max Verstappen was a lone ranger fighting for podiums. In comparison, his teammate, Liam Lawson was lagging behind as a back marker. Only two races in, Red Bull Racing had to let go of their latest recruit. Once again, Red Bull exchanged their drivers between the two teams. Yuki Tsunoda was brought to Red Bull Racing as the replacement for Lawson.
However, the team could not change their story with a new driver once again. For the last 10 races, Yuki Tsunoda has vastly underperformed compared to Max Verstappen. To make matters worse they will starting the Belgian Grand Prix with a new team principal. Red Bull Racing’s first half of the season has been disastrous to say none the less.
| Championship Standing | 4 |
| Points | 172 |
| Wins | 2 |
| Podiums | 5 |
| Max Verstappen – NED | Yuki Tsunoda – JAP | |
| Standings | 3 | 17 |
| Points | 165 | 10 |
| Wins | 2 | 0 |
| Podiums | 5 | 0 |
There is a huge gap between the two cars of Red Bull Racing. Max Verstappen is currently racing towards defending his drivers title. Meanwhile, Yuki Tsunoda is racing to get enough points to just stay with the team next season. The disparity between their two drivers has always been Red Bull’s no.1 problem. They are still regretting letting go of Sergio Perez from the team.

Red Bull Racing’s star driver Max Verstappen, is currently one of the biggest stories of the season. The Dutchman is being hailed for his superior racing techniques and ability to put the Red Bull car at the front of the grid. Verstappen is fighting his car every weekend to somehow get enough pace to challenge the much faster cars ahead of him. He is not giving up on the championship yet. However, there is a lot of talk about how Verstappen might not end up racing for his current team in the upcoming season.
Yuki Tsunoda was also famous for the first few races of the season. The Japanese driver was expected to bring amazing results for Red Bull Racing. He had a good stint at the Racing Bulls. At one point, people were expecting Yuki Tsunoda to win a podium in his debut race for Red Bull Racing. But, the Japanese driver is currently struggling to get his car into Q3. He is hardly winning any points for the team. The team dynamic at Red Bull Racing is still completely dominated by Max Verstappen.
Here’s a comparison of Red Bull Racing and their driver’s results compared to the previous season-
| (2024 – 2025) | Red Bull Racing Honda RBPT | Max Verstappen – NED | Yuki Tsunoda – JAP |
| Standings | 1 – 4 | 1 – 4 | 12 – 17 |
| Points | 373 – 172 | 255 – 165 | 20 – 10 |
| Wins | 7 – 2 | 7 – 2 | 0 – 0 |
| Podiums | 13 – 5 | 9 – 5 | 0 – 0 |
It is visible that Red Bull Racing are no longer the feared team of Formula 1 in 2025. The only constant in their team is their dependency on Max Verstappen for both 2024 and 2025. Nevertheless, the Dutchman is missing the explosive start to the season he had last year. It was ultimately the deciding factor in his championship victory last season. As for Yuki Tsunoda, the Japanese has definitely seen better days.
Red Bull Racing is going to break apart in the second half of the Formula 1 season. After losing a leadership as strong as Christian Horner, the team is going to numerous difficulties in realigning their unstable team to win races and championships. Unfortunately for them, their era of dominating in Formula 1 has come to a close.

The way Max Verstappen has been driving all season makes it seem like he has more podiums to claim in 2025. Verstappen may claim an occasional victory out of the blue. But at last, his chances for winning the world drivers championship are long gone.
Yuki Tsunoda is merely counting days before his Formula 1 exit. The ruthless team he is racing for wouldn’t care less about his future before dropping him from the roster in favor of a faster junior driver.
nhl I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
