Edmonton Oilers vs. Florida Panthers Game 3 Preview, Prediction, and Betting Odds for Stanley Cup Final

Devavrat Kulkarni

An exciting Game 3 on the cards tonight with the series tied at 1-1!

The Stanley Cup Final shifts its attention to Sunrise, Florida, where Game 3 will be held in this gripping series rematch between the Florida Panthers and the Edmonton Oilers. Game 2 saw another brutal battle as both teams went head-to-head, matching goal-for-goal.

If you thought Game 1 was competitive with the overtime ending, Game 2 was an extension of that, as we went into double overtime before getting a winner. Brad Marchand was the hero for the Panthers, scoring two goals on the night, including the game-winner, even as Corey Perry tied the game at 4 apiece with just 18 seconds left in the third period.

It is turning out to be a special series for hockey fans, but what does game 3 hold in store for us? Let us take a look at what has happened thus far and what could transpire on the ice tonight.

Stanley Cup Final Oilers vs. Panthers Game 3 Preview

Expected to be a tough series from the start, Edmonton took advantage of home ice to come from behind and seal the win as Connor McDavid found his partner in crime, Leon Draisaitl, to set up the winner in Game 1. The Panthers, who had built a 3-1 lead, let it slip, and looked a little off defensively.

However, Game 2 was different. The first period saw plenty of action with 5 goals and several minor penalties. Edmonton’s 3-2 lead at the end of the 1st period meant they held the advantage, but Florida stepped up their game defensively, and this time it was their turn to snatch the win in overtime.

Looking ahead at Game 3, the biggest takeaway from the first two games has been how competitive the games have been between these two teams. From the 2 games, there have been 9 periods of hockey with 16 goals being scored. Furthermore, there have been 8 lead changes, and 6 of the goals have been game-tying goals.

In fact, throughout the two games, there has been only a little over a minute of play when the Panthers held a 2-goal cushion during the second period of Game 1. Every other time, the game has been tied or there has been a 1-goal deficit. Thus, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to assume that we could get another overtime in Game 3.

Stanley Cup Final Game 3 Oilers vs. Panthers Prediction

Reiterating on how close this series has been so far, it seems that everything will come down to a little bit of luck here and there for these two teams. Every play is going to matter, as will making the most of the 50-50 chances.

Maybe, the game will end on an incredible individual brilliance as we saw in Game 2 by Connor McDavid during the Oilers’ 3rd goal of the first period. The loss in Game 2 could weigh heavily on the Oilers as they make the long journey to Sunrise, Florida, and the momentum does feel slightly in favor of the defending champions at the moment. Maybe that’s all it will take for Florida to take the lead in the series.

Prediction: Panthers take 2-1 lead after Game 3

Stanley Cup Final Game 3 Betting Odds

The betting odds, which started slightly in favor of the Oilers in Game 1, have shifted the other way as Florida heads home as the favorite in Game 3. They have the momentum, and they have home ice advantage for the first time. If both teams continue this level of high play, perhaps this slight advantage will be the difference maker in the end.

Draw: 3/1

Florida Panthers: 11/10
