Freeman is expected to be ready by the time spring training begins.
World Series MVP Freddie Freeman underwent a successful surgery on his right ankle, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced on Thursday. The surgery was performed by Dr. Kenneth Jung at Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles. Dodgers have confirmed that Freeman is expected to be ready by the time spring training begins.
The eight-time All-Star missed the last three regular-season games after sustaining an ankle injury in September. However, he still looked uncomfortable during the first two playoff rounds against the Padres and the New York Mets.
His condition forced him to sit out two games in the National League Championship Series, including the Game 6 finale, as the Dodgers secured their place in the World Series against the New York Yankees.
Despite battling the injury, Freeman delivered an outstanding performance in the World Series, earning the MVP award. He hit four home runs and drove in 12 runs, including a historic walk-off grand slam in Game 1 against the New York Yankees. His heroics helped the Dodgers clinch the World Series title.
The 35-year-old took to Instagram to update his fans on his condition, sharing a photo of himself with his right ankle in a cast.
“Worth it for the ring”, Freeman captioned the post.
Freeman joined Dodgers on a six-year, $162 million deal in 2022. The two-time 2 World Series champion has played 15 seasons in MLB with 0.300 batting average, 2,267 hits, 343 home runs, 1,232 RBIs and 1,298 runs scored.
