Looking at the team behind the fiesty American.
Every successful tennis player has stressed on the fact that they would never attain greatness behind the team that works relentlessly behind the scenes. The same goes for 21-year-old American phenom Coco Gauff – the two-time Grand Slam champion has a world-class setup that ensures she has the best shot at winning every tournament. Who is the coach of the 2023 US Open champion?
Gauff just competed in Roland Garros 2025, where she beat Aryna Sabalenka to claim the championship. The No. 2 ranked player in the world reached the final while dropping just one set along the way. She notched impressive victories against the likes of Australian Open winner Madison Keys and French breakout star Lois Boisson. Gauff had to face the ‘tigress’ in the summit clash, and the World No. 1 had no answers to the American’s ruthless defense.

Having started playing tennis at the age of six, Gauff caught everyone’s attention with immediate effect. By 2018, the teen sensation went pro. She has had a long list of coaches and mentors along the way.
Coco Gauff is currently being coached by Jean Christophe Faurel and Matt Daly. While “JC” has been a part of her team for an extended period, Daly was added after the 2024 US Open.
Faurel is a former French tennis player, who retired in 2009. He began working with the American during her breakthrough 2019 campaign, and was part of her setup when she won her first WTA title in Linz. On the other hand, 46-year-old Daly is a college tennis alum at Notre Dame University.

The decision to appoint Matt Daly was taken by Gauff after a disappointing outing at the 2024 US Open. “I think it was just time to do a reset, a refresh, and add some things in my game that I felt like I need to do to have a better season next year,” she said. Daly is the former coach of ATP star Denis Shapovalov.
Legendary American coach Brad Gilbert is the former coach of Coco Gauff. They had a partnership between 2023 and 2024, which ended after the US Open.
According to Gauff, she wanted to try something new by adding something refreshing to her game ahead of the 2025 season. She failed to defend her title at Flushing Meadows, losing in the Round of 16 to countrywoman Emma Navarro, which confirmed the end of their alliance.
Gilbert previously coached the likes of Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick, Andy Murray and Kei Nishikori. He is also a former Olympic bronze medalist – at the 1988 Seoul Games.
For many years, the World No. 2 was associated with Team8 – a management company founded by Roger Federer. She was being managed by Tony Godsick, who is also the long-time agent of the 20-time Grand Slam winning Swiss maestro. Her day-to-day management was handled by another agent named Alessandro Barel Di Sant Albano.
However, in April 2025, she launched her own management firm called ‘Coco Gauff Enterprises’. Making the announcement on social media, she expressed, “I’m excited to build something that allows me to take greater ownership of my career while also creating opportunities that extend beyond myself as I continue to grow as an athlete, entrepreneur and changemaker.”
