“We’re going to fix that”- WNBA legend Lisa Leslie offers candid advice to Angel Reese

Lisa Leslie made an appearance on Angel Reese's podcast, "Unapologetically Angel" and offered valuable advice for the WNBA star to improve her game.

WNBA legend Lisa Leslie recently made an appearance on Angel Reese’s podcast, “Unapologetically Angel” and offered valuable advice for the WNBA star to improve her game. Hall of Famer, Leslie is a two-time WNBA Champion and a three-time MVP in her WNBA career and played as a center which coincides with Reese’s gameplay.

Angel Reese broke multiple records in her rookie year but struggled with her shooting in the paint and more so with the layups. The Sky forward attempted 321 layups (second in the league) and only made 136 which is 42.4% of the shots. According to the WNBA site, Reese had the worst field goal percentage from the layups in the league which became a major criticism of her gameplay despite a record breaking season.

On her podcast, Reese asked Lisa Leslie for advice as she prepared for her second season.

Leslie highlighted that the most important advice she had for Reese was to focus on improving her layup technique.

“The biggest advice I have for you is going to be how you shoot your layups”, said Leslie. “Like, we’re going to fix that. That’s fixable for you, and I think that’s probably the biggest”, the 2-time WNBA champ added.

Former WNBA MVP also praised Reese’s improvements in other areas of the game and said, “I love that your ball handling is good. Your defense is improved. Like, the fact that you’ll be snatching that ball from them, girl. I’ll be cracking up like oh she got another one like i love the fact that you are like putting so much pressure on them defensively.”

The Sky forward is just in her second season and working with a Hall of Famer in the off-season can have a positive impact on her game. She averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game on 39.1% shooting from the field and would definitely like to improve her shooting percentages going into the second season.

Chicago Sky’s free-agency moves

The franchise has traded both Dana Evans and Lindsey Allen in a whole backcourt revamp for the franchise. They brought in former Sky point-guard in Courtney Vandersloot from the New York Liberty and Kia Nurse from the Los Angeles Sparks. The franchise has also re-signed Michaela Onyenwere and traded for the Australian shooter in Rebecca Allen from the Phoenix Mercury. The biggest mystery still remains whether Chennedy Carter will resign with the Sky in the free-agency or move to different franchise.

Kia Nurse said this in her introductory press conference, “Playing with bigs like Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese as a shooter’s dream.”
