The 2024 rookie player of the year prioritized her WNBA debut over NBA invitation.
The NBA analyst and Fox Sports host Rob Parker didn’t hold back on absence of Caitlin Clark in the NBA All-Star Weekend. The new controversy has surfaced online surrounding the WNBA star who declined NBA’s invitation to participate in the All-Star 3-point shootout.
Caitlin Clark is currently the most popular figure in women’s basketball and the NBA wanted to add her in the event to gain the viewership. However, Clark declined the offer and later, the 3-Point face off involving Steph Curry got canceled.
NBA-WNBA shootout with Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu is off. NBA's Mike Bass: "We weren't able to land on a plan we thought would raise the bar off of last year’s special moment. We all agreed not to proceed and will instead keep the focus on All-Star Sunday’s new format.”

Rob Parker lost the cool and criticized her choice and started a debate on her influence. He directly blamed the Indiana Fever star for “ruining” the All-Star event. The league is not hosting NBA-WNBA 3-point contest this year despite a great success last year with Curry and Ionescu.
“Caitlin Clark has ruined NBA All-Star Weekend,” Parker said during a broadcast. “They invited her to compete in a shooting contest with Steph Curry, creating an exciting event for fans. She is television ratings gold—everything she’s in, people watch. That would have been the only reason to tune in this weekend.”

Clark will prefer the WNBA All-Star Weekend which will be held in Indianapolis, home of the Indiana Fever. She will make her professional 3-point contest debut this year.
Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu went head-to-head in the first NBA vs. WNBA 3-point challenge during the NBA All-Star 2024. The event gained a strong viewership and the league wanted to continue with Caitlin Clark for the 2025 All-Star. The 2024 rookie player of the year prioritized her WNBA debut.
Clark hasn’t made any public response to Parker’s remarks but the debate will spark the NBA-WNBA crossover. Clark’s decision has impacted the NBA All-Star Weekend but no one can deny the popularity of women’s basketball. The WNBA is making a rapid growth and is currently the biggest women’s brand in the US.
