Victor Wembanyama believes LeBron James is NBA’s “most underrated” player

Victor Wembanyama is making his debut at the 2025 NBA All-Star on Sunday and the Spurs center was invited as the guest on NBA on TNT. French prodigy was asked to pick the most underrated player in the NBA and he surprised everyone with the answer.

Victor Wembanyama picked Lakers superstar, LeBron James as the most underrated in the league. LeBron James will mark his 21st appearance in the NBA All-Star and is regarded one of the top basketball players in the history of the game.

“I’ll go with LeBron James. Underrated just means you are not valued at your right value, right? I think that LeBron is underrated,” Wembanyama answered on TNT.

LeBron James is the four-time NBA champion and four-time NBA MVP. He has won the All-Star MVP honour three times, only behind Kobe Bryant. The veteran guard will appear in the NBA All-Star at the age of 40 years.

Meanwhile, Victor Wembanyama will play for Team Chuck, who will lock horns against Team Kenny in the NBA All-Star Game. On the other side, LeBron James will play for Team Shaq, who will meet Team Candace Parker, the Rising Stars winner. Winners of both games will fight out in the Championship game on Sunday night.

Wembanyama recalls his “Welcome to the NBA” moment

Victor Wembanyama was also asked to share his thoughts on his “Welcome to the NBA” moment and admired LeBron James’ teammate, Luka Doncic. The Frenchman made his debut against Doncic’s former team, Dallas Mavericks on Oct., 2023.

He said, “I mean my very first game, playing against Luka Doncic, that day I saw level of basketball that I had never seen before.”

Wembanyama scored 15 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in a 126–119 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. The 7-footer center was selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft. Wembanyama, the first French player to be drafted first overall, became the rookie player of the year in 2024.
