Let’s go through the trade history of 2024 and pick out the five biggest NBA trades in the year.
Isaiah Hartenstein emerged as a solid defender for the New York Knicks. Oklahoma City Thunder, who currently stand first in the East, signed him on a three-year, $87 million deal. The 26-year-old was looking to get a contract extension but the Knicks locked up OG Anunoby to a max contract.
New York tried to offer him a contract with a maximum average annual value of $16 million which was increased to $29 million. However, both parties didn’t agree on the deal and Thunder signed him for the next three seasons. Hartenstein averaged 7.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks per game in 2023-24 season.
Dennis Schroder’s trade to the Warriors in December finds a place in our list. The 31-year-old guard was traded from the Brooklyn Nets alongside a 2025 second-round pick in exchange for guard De’Anthony Melton, Reece Beekman and three second-round draft picks.
Schroder averaged 18.4 points, 6.6 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals in over 23 games with the Nets this season. His inclusion updated the roaster of Golden State Warriors, who are struggling to find consistency in wins. He made his debut against the Memphis Grizzlies and started in the starting lineup alongside Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, and Kevon Looney.

The 34-year-old averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game last season while shooting 47.1 percent from the field and 41.3 percent from three-point range. Paul George made his debut against Phoenix Suns after recovering from a left knee injury.

The New York Knicks signed Towns in a three-team trade that also included the Charlotte Hornets. The 4-time All-Star arrived in Minneapolis as the No. 1 pick in the 2015 Draft and left a legacy with Minnesota.
The 7-footer averaged 22.9 points and 10.8 rebounds while shooting 39.8% from 3-point range for the Timberwolves. On his return to Target Center, he dropped 32 points, and 20 rebounds to join Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the only players to record 30+ points and 20+ boards in their first game against their former team.
Can we call it the biggest trade of 2024? Klay Thompson’s return to Chase Center in November grabbed all the attention so you can sense the value of the blockbuster trade in the offseason. Golden State Warriors broke the famous duo of the NBA – the Splash Brothers featuring Steph Curry. Thompson went to the Mavericks as part of a sign-and-trade. Thompson’s NBA career started with the Warriors and he played for 13 years at Chase Center.
In part of the deal, the 76ers sent Buddy Hield and Kyle Anderson to the Warriors and a 2025 second-round pick to the Hornets. It became the NBA’s first six-team transaction including the Warriors, Mavericks, 76ers, Hornets, Nuggets and Timberwolves.
