NBA in 2024 was full of entertainment, record-breaking numbers and thrilling encounters.
2024 is going to end and we had great moments this year. NBA ratings dropped by 19% this season but we saw how Christmas Day highlighted a record viewership. The second edition of NBA Cup was full of thrill and we also witnessed some record-breaking numbers in NBA this year. Even the trades in 2024 was full of surprises.

Boston Celtics won their 18th NBA Championship this year, breaking a tie with the Lakers for most championships in league history. Celtics posted a 64-18 record in the regular season and went on a 16-3 record in the playoffs. Jaylen Brown won the Finals MVP to help Boston win the series 4-1 against Dallas Mavericks.
Milwaukee Bucks emerged victorious in the second edition of NBA Cup 2024 as they beat Oklahoma City Thunder 97-81. They joined Los Angeles Lakers (2023 NBA Cup winners) to win the trophy without losing a single game in the tournament. Giannis Antetokounmpo posted a triple-double in the final to clinch the 2024 NBA Cup MVP award. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led Thunder with 21 points.
The offense game has been increased in modern basketball and it’s easy to cross 100 points on any night. However, we saw a historic offense in the 2024 NBA All-Star Game. It was played in the traditional East versus West format which has been scrapped for 2025 NBA All-Star. For the first time in NBA history, a team put up over 200 total points in a game. The East squeezed past the West 211-186.
Luka Doncic has been a biggest performer in the NBA and past few seasons showed his best version. Luka Doncic guided Dallas Mavericks to NBA Finals in 2024 but we remember his remarkable performance on January 26. The Slovenian scored 73 points against the Atlanta Hawks to become the fourth-most ever by a single player in NBA history. His offensive masterclass helped Mavericks to beat Atlanta Hawks 148-143.

The reigning NBA MVP, Nikola Jokic produced a winning buzzer-beater on January 4. Denver Nuggets met Golden State Warriors at Chase Center and the match was going towards a thrilling end. Both teams were tied at 127 points with three seconds to go and Aaron Gordon passed the ball to Nikola Jokic. The 29-year-old center launched the ball from a 39-feet away at the basket and his buzzer-beater helped Nuggets to beat Steph Curry’s Warriors 130-127. Nikola Jokic finished with 34 points in the game and won the MVP award for the 2023-24 season.
Anthony Edwards, who is quite famous for his profane language in interviews, delivered a clutch performance for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA playoffs 2024. He guided Minnesota to the Conference Finals for the second time in the history. Defending champions, Denver Nuggets had a 20-point lead in Game 7 of the Conference Semifinals. Wolves erased the largest deficit of any Game 7 in NBA history to pull off a great comeback in a 98-90 win.
LeBron James who turned 40 on Dec. 30, created history in March this year after becoming the first NBA player to reach 40,000 points. The King achieved this milestone against the Denver Nuggets when he drove past Michael Porter Jr. to hit a layup with 10:39 left in the second quarter. James finished with 26 points and he received a standing ovation from the crowd.
The Detroit Pistons would not remember the 2023-24 season as they broke the record for most consecutive losses in a single season. Detroit dropped 28 straight games in 2023-24 before beating the Toronto Raptors 129-127 just before the New Year. Pistons home crowd went into a frenzy when they snapped a 28-game losing streak. The Pistons and the 76ers are now tied for the longest-ever losing streak in the NBA.
The Cleveland Cavaliers started the NBA 2024-25 season with a pure domination and they finish the year as top seed in Eastern Conference. Caves had a 15-game winning streak this season which was ended by the Boston Celtics in the NBA Cup. Caves are the fourth team in NBA history to go 15-0 in the beginning of a campaign. They created a history of posting 15-0 record after beating the Charlotte Hornets on Dec. 17.
Denver Nuggets star, Nikola Jokic won the third MVP award at the end of season 2023-24. The Serbian superstar is also leading the MVP race in 2024-25 season. Jokic has won the MVP award in three of his last four seasons: 2021, 2022, and 2024. In 2023, he finished second place in voting to Joel Embiid. Jokic joined Oscar Robertson to record 2,000 points, 900 rebounds and 600 assists in a season.
